I just wanted to drop you a note to say, I'm in Canada so I don't think I can make it to the meet. What's Birmingham like? My ancestors are from Scotland and Ireland, but they would never really talk about the "old country" much. I like this website alot. I've written some things in my Journal, just rantings and musings. After I've looked around some, I would like to submit some writing. Anyway, nice to meet you and remember to study!

I must be what you guys call a newbie. Oh well, I've been called a lot worse. Even to my face. Anywho, hello Z.

looking for someone to talk to... i was thinking of joining the bookworms club but i haven't been able to figure out exactly what you guys do... is it just there to add to compile a list of book-related guide entries? are there activities or... guess i don't know what any of the clubs really "do" here.
was thinking about writing an entry on the books of alduous huxley.
i read your article on models for mental illness. i just graduated from carnegie mellon and studied psych (and physics) and have been diagnosed with dysthymia so i've been through the whole crappy process... it's a good broad-level entry but i wondered if you have an opinion on how things should be done or progress.
i'm just bored, so hi!

Hi, Glad you enjoyed the article!
The bookworms main activity is to write regular book reviews for the post - we try and get one in every week. All the clubs are mainly places where people can talk! Sort of like groups of people having conversations in bars.
I think that with reguard to treatment, I don't have an opinion other than I think that we should use what's proved to work in controled studies (dull cop out of one I know).

Coren: Don't let her read any more books than she is already. Ten... or is it twelve?

does the whole club write a book review, or is everyone working on one, or what?
i've read your name a million times and i haven't figured it out. what did you give up?
i just finished reading "the salmon of doubt" which is what pointed me to this site. also reading huxley's "island" and before that i read "after many a summer dies the swan."
do you read fiction and nonfiction?
p.s.
jeenius Posted Jul 9, 2004
i read at least one study claiming that cognitive behavior therapy and SSRI's had converging effects (top down and bottom up) at balancing out the relationship between cortical and limbic components associated with depression.
oh, and i *want* to read "last chance to see," richard dawkins' "a devil's chaplain," and "just a couple of days" which i found on amazon on a list called "so you'd like to... discover an author like douglas adams?"
all the messages had stopped so i figured you brits were in bed
p.s.

Who, me? I read aanything and everything that appeals to me, which encompasses almost the entire spectrum of reading material available, but my main forays are into fantasy, sci-fi, and, recently, mystery.

Hi, I'm new to H2G2, have been reading it for a couple of years but only just got round to joining.
I found your entry about approaches to treating mental illness very interesting. I'm receiving treatment by various means from various avenues, and I've noticed how each person has their pet method which has to be worked through before they start to really try to help Me.

Thanks, I'm glad that you found it intresing I have to admit when I starting thinking of treatment for mental illness in the form of three different models it all started to make sense.
I hope you settle in ok, and if you've got any problems do feel free to ask you!
