I agree with the sentiment that people should be credited with their work, which is why I'm a little perplexed by the view that other contributors shouldn't be credited just to maintain a tally for solo-written entries. If it wasn't solo-written, why should it have solo-written status?
Also, working on h2g2 Support for two years now, I can confirm that Elvised Researchers do return to the site if they get an email. Not always, and not often, but occasionally, which is a good thing.
My first entry for the Guide was solo-written. Because of information added at some point prior to it becoming edited it beame collaborative, which happened without discussion with me. This was back in the site's year when an entry could take up to a year to become edited, by the way. I think we're a lot fairer in consultations nowadays.
Just in case there's still confusion, what we're suggesting with collaborative entries is that the collator could get a normal 'Written and researched by' credit and an additional, customised, 'Compiled by' credit.
And remember the first post in this announcement conversation: 'We don't view this as a replacement for collaboration, and we hope that people will continue to give credit where it's due.'

'Collaborative entries are especially valuable to h2g2 as, when they hit the Front Page, they generate automated messages that remind people to come back to the site'.
So, why can't we have 'gold' and 'silver' awards (as I've mentioned elsewhere) for solo and collaborative Entries, respectively.(for the 25, 50, 75 and 100 Entries).
So, in other words, a person may have 25 GE's but 5 of them are collaborative. Then (s)he would get a silver cup to display on the special shelf in their PS . If the Entries were all solo, then (s)he would get a gold cup.
Once the said researcher has accrued 25 solo Entries, then the silver cup is replaced with a gold one.

It's much harder work compiling an entry from content other Researchers have added. So I think we should get a badge for each one we do.

Thought for a moment that you meant a badge for each Entry - in which case each Entry is its own badge anyway!
But a Bompiler's Badge sounds like a good idea.
Returning to my point above, I forgot to say that, IMO, a collaborative Entry should be 'gold' and a 'solo' one silver because as Jimster (I think it was) hinted, collaborative Entries are more valuable because oif the no. of emails that get sent out to Researchers which may persuade Elvised Researchers to return to the fold.

I did. One badge for each entry we compile. But I am just kidding really. Not that I'd say no of course...
