Post 1

The H2G2 Editors

Apologies if you were unable to access h2g2 this morning. We had a number of problems occurring simultaneously, which meant that some Researchers will have had problems logging in or in getting these pages to load. Our technical teams are working to resolve the issues and always aim to respond as quickly as possible whenever problems occur.

We appreciate that the 'Server too busy' messages are also appearing more frequently than we're happy with. The Communities and Technical teams are investigating ways to improve performance, but it's essential that each solution is fully tested to ensure that a quick fix doesn't cause additional problems down the line.

As ever, your patience and understanding is appreciated.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

I'm starting to think that cleaning the cages may not be enough... if Auntie will spare you a few quid you could pop down to the pet shop and get some new hamsters.

someone applied a patch with the old code in it didn't they? I only suggest that as I got the old 'We apologise for the inconvenience: Unknown error' message instead of the new fangled 'Talk: servers too busy' one.

Ah, t'was quite nostalgic really...

When are DNA going to get a new server, this one obviously can't cope anymore

Yes, there are still problems with the DNA servers at the moment. The
technical teams have been working very hard over the past couple of weeks to implement some small, incremental changes and upgrades to the
site. There are still many tweaks and upgrades that the techies have to
implement - unfortunately, it's *not* just one single issue that's causing these problems, and each minor fix needs to be tested to make sure that it doesn't cause new additional problems. That's the reason why the gradual improvements may not appear instantly obvious to us all.

Reefgirl, the servers could be the bestest in the world... but it won't make the blindest bit of difference if the problem is software related.
