"gulp" is "plug" spelt in reverse, Amy...so it is never too late to "pull the plug" if you are uncertain or unsure of your decision...smiley - smiley

*tilts head* It is, isn't it?

We're sure of the decision--the gulping is purely wondering if our offer will be accepted (it's a rather low one)smiley - smiley

But are they as much fun to watch swooping along about headlight-height?

Heard back from the owner--doesn't look like this is going to happen, unless he changes his negotiating stance. Since we were told yesterday that it's been shown a lot lately...

It could be that he feels in a better position if it's been shown a fair bit recently, but I was under the impression it's been on the market for a while and we hear that's not exactly a seller's housing market in the US... I wonder if he some strange expectations that have kept it unsold.

Anyway, I really hope things are more cheerful than perhaps they're starting to appear.

The thing is, it was priced too high for quite a while, and when he recently came down, it was to about where it should be. He's got it listed with some internet realtor, and it's sort of like a for-sale-by-owner property, but not, so I don't know if he's getting any pricig advice or not.

Without getting into actual dollar amounts, I will say that his counteroffer was less than $4,000 less than the list price.

Negotiations can be a bit tricky, but you have to know your reasonable limits. If he's not willing to be reasonable, then I guess it's not the place for you. Today ...

Definitely. And we didn't really expect him to take our first offer, since it was rather low (would've been nice, but a big surprisesmiley - winkeye)--a counter-offer was the best we were hoping for. What bemuses me is why it wasn't a downright refusal, instead of the amount it was (though I suppose the phrasing *could* have actually been a refusal)

I can send you some cardboard boxes, Amy, so you can construct a temporary house to live in while waiting for the owners to come down to a more affordable price. smiley - whistle

Housing's not a problem--we just moved back into the fixed-up apartment, and have about half the boxes we had when we did (empties having been flattened and put in the recycle bin that the management provided--after it was unlocked, anyway) But thanks anywaysmiley - tongueout

You've bought a house? The house has been struck by a small blackhole? Someone else was willing to pay a steeper price? What?
