We're making an offer. Well, I suppose technically the offer's going to be made after the weekend, but still...
This is the house http://tinyurl.com/2hmj5t (the offer's quite a bit less than the asking price, and will include stipulations for pest, roof, well, and septic inspections).

It looks like a tidy place, Amy, if priced a lot higher than I would expect. But then, real estate varies soooo much from county to country, eh? Best of luck with the offering and negotiations.

We backed out a bit--we're going to look at the house once more before we make the offer, just to be sure. After all, unlike renting, there's a bit of a commitment involved...
And Nick, that's cheap for around here, and Del Norte county has a median home price of $400K less than the rest of California. Most other houses in our price range are mobile homes (most in parks, which we don't want to do--we'd never own the land the home sits on, that way), complete tear downs, or in escrow.

Amy the house looks super.
And you even have a fence and a BIG TREE in the garden already,
Good luck.
My son has put in an offer on the flat in Folkestone. I do hope that it is successful. I long to move so that I can breathe with ease again.Ohopefully)

Now THERE is an idea. There've been hootoo anniversaries, virtual 'hen-parties', birthdays ... But I don't think I have heard of a hootoo'ish house-warming. Hmmm ...
*plans to secure some proper maple syrup, Canadian back-bacon and a few other side-bits to toss into a feast*

Hello Amy and everybody! The house looks very nice Amy! It would have been nice if the yard was a bit bigger. But you have a tree! When Radiantjoiedevivre mentioned the BIG TREE I hoped it might be a Giant Sequoia!!! At any rate, the price compares with what houses cost here in South Africa. If you don't opt for this one ... I hope you can get something better!

Thanks everyone--like I said, we're going to look at it again the day after tomorrow, just to be sure... Although the listing says that the oven and dishwasher are included, the current tenant says that neither works--all the working appliances she bought herself Luckily, we have a source for cheap used appliances I figure that, if we can't talk the current tenant into selling us hers when she moves out, we'll still be OK.
The back yard is quite large, since the land is twice the size of a normal city lot around here (most seem to be .16 acre, and this house is on .32 acre) I don't remember if there's any redwoods in the back or not, but if there's not, I'm fine with that, because they're actually quite messy trees. It's not like I can't go a few minutes in any direction and be surrounded by them, with the bonus of not having to clean up after them
Even if we make an offer and it's accepted, it could still be a couple months before we move in, so plenty of time to plan a party

And, of course, if we do buy any house, my long-threatened trip to the UK may end up being a 20th anniversary trip, like Nick's

Hi Amy,
We shall have to have a housewarming party the same night if all our offers are accepted. One on the channel and one in your neck of the woods!!.
Do hope we are both successful.
With affection

Maybe we could rent the flying building mentioned in the Hitchhiker trilogy for the occasion. It could go from country to country, picking us all up, and we could party nonstop.

It would be just my luck, though, if as soon as we rented the place, thge batteries ran down and it wouldn't levitate any more.

*mutter*
One slight disadvantage to being interested in a house that's being lived in--the tenant needs 24 hour notice before the home can be viewed. While I can certainly understand that, and find it perfectly reasonable, it's rather annoying that F (our realtor) has been trying to reach the tenant since the end of last week for us to see the house this afternoon. As far as I know, no one was reached by the end of business today. It's a good thing I made a point of digging out the laptop about an hour before our appointment, or else we would have been sitting there (I hadn't gotten around to putting F's number in my mobile yet... Though it *was* in the call list.) So everything's up in the air, at this point.
In other news, we were moved back into our fixed up apartment yesterday (which is why the laptop was packed away).

So does this mean you can finally settle in again, for a time? Atleast until you do achieve the purchase of a new place of your own, of course ...
