Frankly, I'm disgusted. As much as I love this place,
I feel I have to leave, at least for now. (If my fully
admitted addiction will let me ) It may be
permenant, or temporary. It depends on whether the
situation described at A1154954 is resolved in the
correct way (ie, Symphony being restored) (oh, 0 or
Barton, if that link ends up leading to a disappeared
page, could you post the link to Mistdancer's journal?
Thanks.) Or if Symphony asks that I stay to help
fight,as someone who does '*not* have a reputation as
a troublemaker' as was pointed out elsewhere (many of
those supporting Symphony do have such a reputation)
For those that don't check links while reading, the
basic situation is this: Symphony, whom some may have
noticed in my journals, has been banned for the
'crime' of being LeKZ. Slight problem with that.
Symphony is in the UK, and LeKZ is in Colorado...
Symphony has asked what proof is needed by the
Italics, other than email headers and IP addresses,
both of which show clearly that they're in the UK.
Both of which were also sufficient a year and a half
ago to identify a couple of researchers as being in
the same geographic location as LeKZ, which cemented
their bans.
How am I so certain that Symphony is, in fact, *not*
LeKZ, as well as in the UK (which of course by itself
means they're not LeKZ)? I know both Symphony and
LeKZ. I haven't met either group IRL, of course, but I
do have both relevent phone numbers, and one (the one
for LeKZ) is clearly a US number (and of course 0 can
easily verify that they live in Colorado) and the
other, Symphony's, is definately a UK number. Anyone
that's called people in both the US and the UK can
testify that the numbers are different. Especially
since a caller from the US has to dial 11 44 and drop
the initial 0 when calling the UK. (For non-US
researcher's information, if a 0 is dialed before a US
phone number, you get directory assistance, so no US
number starts with a 0)
I've been thinking of posting this for awhile, but I
decided to give some time before I did. It's now been
2 weeks since I made the decision, and nothing has
happened. I'm resigning from the ACEs, as even if I
don't leave forever, and even if Symphony's account is
restored (though the more time that passes, the more
unlikely that appears) I don't want to be seen
representing a site that has demonstrated such
paranoia (Eek, an openly multiple person whose name on
here is related to music and that knows some of the
same people as LeKZ! Must be them again! Quick, ban
them and this time don't let anyone know! As long as
Symphony tells no one (they did) no one will know. Oh,
easily checked things show they're in the UK? Well,
those can be faked, although we never admitted that
when those things showed in our favor...)
Of course, I have to wonder if I'd be so upset if
Symphony weren't a friend of mine, that I've known
since well before they opened their account. I
honestly don't know. I like to think that such
injustice would make me angry anyway, but I just don't
know.
My contact details are still on my page, so my friends
can still get ahold of me.

I know neither persons but you and others whom have written about this situation, are respected researchers. I hope it is solved properly so you can stay.

Oh Crap!
I hate when friends go all of a sudden because of a family row, sometime I think the italics have been molded after there farther BBC with there heads up there arses, but I never say it out loud.
Well I shall wait for the return of some I consider a friend, if that is ever posible.

I actually did a fair amount of research into one of the LekZ bannings (the forensic doctor incident), and I concluded that there was no way *I* could link the two together. Whilst the NYPD (Or was it the LAPD?) had no record of him, I did manage to track down an individual matching the aforementioned doctor's description both in the area and in publication in the field in question.
Impossible? no. Unlikely? yes. I know for a fact that if *I* wanted to be an entirely different person on h2g2 and avert a ban, I could do so untracably. I'm guessing, therefore, that other people have the capacity too: short of getting involved with ISPs and legal disputes, it's very hard to sort this sort of thing out.
Just a thought.

sorry, Amy.
You know we don't want to lose you here!
I hope the matter will be settled in some acceptable way - and to see you back!

Do stay in touch, hopefully this will all get sorted out soon, if it doesn't a well respected Scout and Guru will probably be joining you...

Neither is quite right, I've been there, still am there, and found an accomodation that permits me to type this.
Perhaps you will as well. Perhaps not.
But I honor you for seeing that a decision and a gesture needed to be made.
If I were not in the middle of things that seem to really require my presence, I would have only seen this as a confirmation of what I had already decided and would have joined you, assuming I had come back in the first place.
I wish you well, you know how to get my attention. If you need me, I am there for you.

I don't anything about what has gone on Amy but what I do know is you will be really missed. I hope you decide to stay.

I've been on the list almost 2 years so don't recall the original fuss about Lexx but have read about it and can understand why the italics acted as they did - from their account.
I don't believe I've ever had dealings with Symphony so can't comment. I did have (with reason)views on the counterfeit mentioned above.
I have had many communications with you over the past 2 years. I hope things get sorted out soon to your satisfaction. There is "collateral damage" in these situations too often.
for the wee one.

You will be much missed, Amy. I, too, hope that this far-too-long-running saga can finally be sorted out, and that you'll be rejoining us some time soon.

Amy~
This situation sounds all too familiar to me.
"Those in power" have made up their collective "mind" about the guilt of a person, regardless of what the truth is.
"Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!"
I experienced the very same horror when my children were stolen by Social Services and accused of being a child abuser and neglecter, despite the fact that I had never done any such things...
"Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely!"
"Give an inch and they'll take a mile."
Sorry to see you go, but I respect your stand, and your willingness to act upon your beliefs.
Please keep in touch, Luv.

So sorry to hear that you are leaving us Amy. Although I can understand why, the Symphony case is quite bewildering to me, its obvious that they are not LeKZ. If I can trust anyone here to tell the truth, its you Amy. If you say they are different people in different continents, then that is enough for me.
Hopefully TPTB, will understand that when you take a stand like this, it is time to start listening. Heres hoping they do and that you and Symphony are back soon.
