I have thought of that too, becoming part of the organism of the crowd, but really I cannot do it. Maybe this has something to do with my personality, I am a loner. I mean I can be very social, and I have friends, but I stick to myself and ever since I was a kid I feel like an "outsider" in pretty much any group, even my own family.
Maybe alot of people feel like this?

I'm very much a loaner too, in my own private time. But, when interacting with others, I tend to get 'emulated'.

I think lots of us here are loners - introvert, in that we like to interact on our own premises, but social too, because we like to interact.

Indeed. Though in a Myers Briggs test, I score very heavily on the Extrovert axis, I am afraid...

Me too, I can be both... very strange. An introextrovert... or an extrointrovert is probably more appropriate

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
