Can Something come from Nothing?
Pandora Posted Jun 11, 2000
Maybe she's taking a cat nap! Or maybe she's proving that nothing can really exist!!! Or, she could be out doing something?!?

My brother's 9 years older than me & I had the same kind of treatment - they just don't take you seriously do they? When I eventually got married at 19 (!!) then he began taking me seriously & listening. When I got divorced, at 23 & got my own home at 32 (!!), then he began taking my advice. He could have tried giving me advice earlier instead, but I wouldn't hold that against him.
Any way Katsy, just bear with it - one day he'll take you seriously & realise you are a person & not just a kid sister. Enjoy the teasing now - it'll stand you in good stead - believe me

Well, my sister is 19 years older than me, and Shim is 7 years younger than she, and apparently she didn't take him seriously until after he left uni! I know that she didn't really treat me seriously, but then again there was a 4 year gap of us not having any contact, then she started writing to me when I was 12, and she treated me like her little sister, and now we talk like there is no age gap! It's probably because I'm a girl that she treated me more maturely at a younger age compared to Shim! Oh well, Shim has been ignoring me for the past week anyway.....

Gee, 19 years between you & your sister!!! Oh well, I suppose I can talk, my partner is 15 years older than me!! But at our age it doesn't make any difference, in fact, if he begins the "older person" act I just bring him down to size . It is strange it being a bigger gap than between my brother & myself, but it works.
Have a good week. School should almost be over??

Can Something come from Nothing?
Noam Posted Jun 14, 2000
In fact, when you have an idea, that is just a chemical and electrical output of electrical currents that stimulate the nerve centers in our brain. So, in fact an idea is not something that comes from "nothing".
Notwithstanding, this is one of the most fascinating metaphysical questions there are, and most philosophers have their different answers, though none actually give an answer which is (to me) acceptable. Unfortunately, as of yet, I don't yet have an answer I am willing to share with the world, either.
So it'll be back to only criticizing what others say, for some more time. No offense...

Offense is a prime example of a nothing/something. It is only an abstract concept and depending on who you are offense may mean nothing or it may mean a very big something (wars happen coz someone takes offense at another country existing - yet another abstract concept).
It may be that nothing can only exist as an idea i.e. no physical reality beyond the fleeting electrical waves we call thought. In which case nothing has to come from something, so something may or may not come from nothing, it doesn't matter as something existed prior to the nothing and somethings may be indistinguishable or the concept of nothing is self nullifying and can cause serious headaches (thought - was philosophy invented by aspirin manufacturers to build up custom?).

Snikkers: YOU DON'T NEED TO TELL ME HOW MUCH THE BLOODHOUND GANG SUCK!!!!!!!! I mean, they have a cheek to have such disgusting lyrics like that! I've actually yet to meet someone who agrees with me, everyone else thinks it's a brilliant song!
Shirps: I WISH school was almost over! I've got another 5 weeks left!!!!!! Even though next week is my last full 5 day week of the year. The next week I have a day off, the next week I've got a school trip, the next week is an industry day, the week after that is the busiest: a day off, a health conference and A TRIP TO CHESSINGTON!!!!!!! Then is the last week which is normal except for the last day which is a half day!!!!!
