I'm appalled at the BBC for allowing such twaddle to be fed to the masses via their site. Whoever "Aqua" is evidently knows little or nothing of the Craft, and is churning out misinformation at an alarming rate. Those of us who actually practice the Craft, and have been doing so for many years, will know that the so-called information being peddled on that site is nothing to do with real witchcraft - but the danger is that people seeking information about the Craft and any associated subjects WON'T know it's not correct, and might just take it seriously.

I strongly urge the BBC to discontinue this particular site, and turn for information to the Pagan Federation, or to well-known, informed members of our community, such as Kate West - that way, anyone seeking information will be pointed in the right directions, and the rest of us won't have to fall about laughing at the rubbish on the site

Bright Blessings
Greenlady

Hi there, firstly, welcome to H2G2. smiley - smiley

Secondly, you've posted your comments, I assume about an entry in the guide, to the welcome page of h2g2, you'd probably get a better response if you posted them under the entry itself.

Finally, in defence of the Beeb (and no, I'm not a BBC employee smiley - winkeye)

It does say on the bottom of every page

"Most of the content on h2g2 is created by h2g2's Researchers, who are members of the public. The views expressed are theirs and unless specifically stated are not those of the BBC. The BBC is not responsible for the content of any external sites referenced. In the event that you consider anything on this page to be in breach of the site's House Rules, please click here. For any other comments, please click on the Feedback button above."

Basically meaning that anyone can post whatever they like on this site as long as it doesn't breach BBC or House rules - If you find something you think is inaccurate your best bet is to discuss it directly with the author.

In the meantime, if you put something onto your personal space on H2G2, either myself or one of the other ACES (assistant community editors) will pop along and show you around this site... And of course, if you've strong opinions on an entry on Witchcraft, why not write your own entry for the edited guide, that way you can see the correct facts get through to everyone.

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive

Welcome to h2g2.

The purpose of h2g2 is to write for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Earth Edition. Much of the writing on the site is 'work in progress' by members of the public. Eventually some of the writing gets properly edited by employees of the BBC and becomes part of the Edited Guide.

None of Aqua the Water Witch's U197743 work is in the Edited Guide yet.

Why don't you write some articles telling us the truth about witchcraft and submit them for editing? That way you words will be the official version smiley - biggrin.

Two phrases spring to mind here Amy...

'Great minds think alike'...
or
'Fools seldom differ'

Which one do you think refers to us?

As the other Researchers have said (thanks lovely people smiley - biggrin), h2g2 Entries are written by members of the public. The best thing to do to add additional information is to post your comments to the bottom of the entry and they'll be visible to the public immediately. Alternatively, you could write your own Entry on witchcraft and submit it to Peer Review.

On h2g2 each Researcher is entitled to his or her own personal opinions, feelings and beliefs, and they are as important as anyone elses. So even if you don't agree with something another Researcher has said, try to be kind when you make comments.

Ford Prefect

i am a first time h2g2 user and learning witch but i agree here.

whoever did write it should have talked to those who are in the craft but i don't think that the bbc should take it down but should in consultation with local on-line witches should add a table of links to reputable sites where those keen on learning can get on with it from those in the know

By the "Craft," I assume you refer to Wicca.

What exactly is the appeal of such a lifestyle?

Sorry to butt in on your conversation, but if
Researcher "211182"
would go back to their own page and then click on the "EDIT PAGE" button and then write a little something about your self, as this will activate your page and then a ACE can come and welcome you there properly
Sorry for interrupting your conversation smiley - ok

Hello, I'm new to h2g2, so at the moment I'm just feeling my way around. You call yourself Whisky, and mention "Deja Vu". Well, Whisky is the name of my girlfriend's pet dog!

As for Wicca in general, I am open-minded - as I try to be to all positive faiths. Can one put spells on people, or not? As someone who only suffers with arthritis during anti-social hours, I'm beginning to wonder! Seeing as the pain is beginning to come back as I write this, I think I have my answer. Well, I forgive you whoever you are, in my experience wrong-doers, whatever their faith, fear forgiveness the most out of all things they fear. Which is not to knock genuine believers, for I can see nothing wrong with herbal medicine, and observing the passing of the seasons. If I am wrong on this last point, please correct me.

Love and Peace,

A believer of another faith.
