Phenodihydrochloride Benzelex

Ok, something called the embalmer, mentioned in Withnail and I.

Who supplies it...

Who invented it and why? (well it wasn't Zaphod Beeblebrox, unfortunately...)

If only you could tell something from the name - apart from it looks like its a compound (well <duh&gtsmiley - winkeye of Phenol (?), (HCl)2 and Benzene and...?

With a name like embalmer you might think that someone that deals with dead people might supply it...

There was a time, many years ago, when I was a working musician, when a product by the street name of Embalming Fluid was available on the street drug market, and I seem to remember it was PHC "Back of a lorry" veterinary paralyzing agent. But I was high at the time, I may not remember it clearly ... Is that Donald Duck with a cigar??

Deadangel - Still not dead, just!

sounds like you're describing ketamine - a horse tranquiliser.

Kilted-biker-in-US

Oh no, it wasn't Donald Duck. Horse tranquilizer sounds right. But the idea of PHC still sounds like it might apply. Is that a Womble in a tube top and platforms?

I have a vague recollection of PHB being some sort of Drug, and that fits the name above - but I suspect a klaxon for such obviousness...

What if anything was PHB used for.. More head scratching required...

OK, on another tack.. If it featured in Withnail and I, is there any reason to think that it was/is a REAL drug?

If not then, at a guess, the supplier would be the character that gave it to Withnail....

And the "inventor" would be the writer of the script, or the director...
