According to the mountain culture of the Nuba of Sudan, what is the appropriate age to commence circumcision?
Googling and Wikipedia are forbidden.
There are klaxons, naturally; so be bold, preferably interesting but never obvious.
Good luck.

It's the word 'commence' that worries me. At what age do they FINISH?

I think it's all over relatively quickly.
I simply meant to indicate initiate or perform.

I'll go for the fairly obvious then to get it out of the way.
Around puberty and entrance into adulthood: so age 11/12ish? After a manhood trial where he kills his first lion or something with big teeth.
I know it's 8 days old in Jewish culture but around birth seems waaay too obvious so I'll not mention it!
Awaits with bated breath!

I now have a horrible mental vision of several African men in awful Fair Isle 'Christmas' jumpers standing around a deathbed, with scalpels in hand. Thanks for that Taff
Is this about male or female circumcision, Clive? The age would probably be different in females (and a bit easier to narrow down as it would be done sometime before marriage!).

The Nuba, do regrettably go in for female circumcision, but I'm specifically thinking of the male kind.

This subject is beyond my knowledge. The only experience I have is a friend who married into an orthodox Jewish family and was required to be circumcised before the ceremony. Not immediately before, obviously, they aren't sadists.
I asked him at the time if he was concerned and he replied, "It's no skin off my nose."

Taff has been closest, it's not really a question of knowledge, it's informed guessing.

when they can first walk
the babe toddles toward the parents/alter of thier own accord(come to daddy etc.) and that is deemed as free will to being, accepting the removal/baptism of blood
