I'll beware of ANYONE carrying a horse unless it's a baby and they are a vet!
At the very least they'll be stupid...

Well, there is a 'rue de Venise' and a 'rue d'Athènes'. I don't know about the Jersey tradition, and for my grandma's kitchen you said 'possibly' (so I must inform you that there doesn't appear to be one).

Let me think for a moment..........
I know Venice is famous for making glass, and Jersey is famous for knitting.......
Does Jersey make glass???
Does Venice make knitted goods???
I can possibly link Jersey and Venice, but where Grannie's kitchen comes into the equation puddles me!!

There's nobody close to getting the correct answer, yet. So far in Venice and Jersey, and Greece and Granny's kitchen we have:
1. a medical connection
2. a linguistic aspect
3. a nice smell.
Clue: Each of the above comes from a different one of the places.
GT: DGI for something Venice was famous for making - but it's not famous for it now.

This medical connection, anything to do with glasses? 17th century is telescope-time, so i'd imagine there could be crossover into this field?

Or even lavender.
Used as a medicinal herb
Grannies smell of it
Tradition of making perfume from it in Jersey
The greeks called it spikenard
All those venetian glass perfume bottles must have had something in them....perfume anyone?
