Ferdinand and Isabella?
Nope - but who are they ?
They ruled Spain and funded C Columbus on his holiday to the Americas.

They also drove the Moors out of Granada, the last Moorish stronghold in Europe. And they pursued and expelled the Jews from Spain, with a very short deadline, meaning that all kinds of countries had to send ships to save them - but that's obviously not as important as giving some money to someone so he could go get lost on the way to India

I had an American history teacher who kept asking "What happened in 1492?" and I made a game of always naming something different that had nothing to do with Columbus...
Did you know it's the year the first arboretum was created, by the Czechs?

think I seem to recall, (vaguely from a bit of blurb in the paper when showing the film on tv again) Ann frank, was a proposal for posthumous citizenship by way of apology for denying it during the war.

Ooooo I thought we were looking for a Stateside connection
Bet they could not drive the Moors out of Yorkshire (ask Prof he has tried)

Well it's none of those.
Though I'd be churlish if I didn't give points for DGI toi someone who provided us with the date of the foundation of the world's first arboretum. Walsall has a nice one.
There is a Jewish connection with one of the names
and think back to the faoundation of the US for the names of the husband and wife couple.

think back to the faoundation of the US for the names of the husband and wife couple...Ah now you say that..thinking about it brought to mind parker, the presto its something to do with Pennsylvania, know the state was named after one of its early governors, was it one of them, was he not a dutchman?

ekky99 Posted Jul 3, 2009
Well, I guess the founder of Pennsylvania was called Penn. So were the husband and wife Mr and Mrs Penn?

William Penn was granted a land charter by Charles 11 it became Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania means "Penn's Woods" but it refers to William Penn's father (who was an Admiral I believe) not to William Penn.

3 points for ekky for William and Hannah Callowhill Penn - who were awarded honorary citizenship in 1984.
Must be a great relief to their great great great great grandchildren, who now get a green card.
One left which was awarded for helping Jews escape the nazi regime.

I believe that there was a Dutchman who helped Jews to escape to the UK, unlike Schindler who saved them by saying they wer important workers.
There was a film about it on TV a few months ago. Me brain like a seive. Cannot remember name.
