There is a nukite to the eyes in Chinte kata although it is called nihon nukite using to open fingers being the index and middle. The nukite used in the likes of heian nidan and kanku dai is the three flattened finger tip version aimed at striking solar plexux nerve area, could also be effective to the throat

Reading all this stuff about karate is very interesting, and I wouldn't mind giving it a try, but it's so hard to change one's ways.
If I wasn't in the routine of going to judo I imagine it would be difficult to start it now at this stage. I go to judo because I've been going to it for quite a while, and it's familiar.
I know one of you had a go at judo once.
Have you been back since?

I think when you get to certain level it is OK to look at alternative ways, I have done some aikido and have found I have been able to relate it back to my karate training. It is hard to start from scratch though, depends on if our ego can except wearing a white belt again, but really there is nothing better than the beginners mind which is the ultimate level

Hi KZ , i see your PS was yikesed, hope you get it back soon my friend.
Yes it was me that went to a judo class, and i have just started back actually, only had 3 lessons-but will try and keep it up: its good fun, nice people, and interesting.
I personally dont like all that knockout stuff, people get hurt when you try and hit them that hard; dont they. I used do karate, which has a philosophy behind it, otherwise it would just be brawling, or self defence; karate people are the same as judo people i think, self defence gets most people into it, and then you pick up on the other advantages of doing that type of ; training/sport/hobby/socialising with people etc....but i think the attitude is all, i am only a beginner, and i have had an unspectacular beginning; but still:

Hey, whats happened to KZ's PS?
Never got into Judo although it's suprising how many things you pick up over the years, some of the instructors I have trained with have also had a Judo background and have intergrated parts into karate training
Thought this was interesting.

Hi: Hey KZ WG; here is some more about Karate-like i said it ( not just karate-all the shaolin lineage of martial arts and more ) has a philosophical foundation to it-this mans picture hangs on the walls of the top dojos, in Japan and for that matter kung fu schools in China etal.. : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodhidharma
I have read a very small bit about Zen, and as Judo comes from the Samurai tradition, it is also relavent i think; i dont know if Zen has much of a part in Judo , i would be interested to know, but it does have very much influence on all traditional Japanese arts, from pottery to paper folding to archery, and the whole idea of "Bushido".
Look for the Rinzai school of Zen Bhuddism, it is the one most connected with the Japanese warrior class ( and the ruling elite ), very dynamic, and simple.
Some Christian clergy, have encorporated the Zen way in their daily devotion, also; without any conflict with thier faith in God or Jesus.
Alot of martial arts; and i am thinking more of the Chinese, Kung Fu, schools, belive that their arts were invented , or born at or by the Shaolin temple-which was where Bodhidharma stayed when he brought Chan Bhuddism to China- the monks of Shaolin turned the excercises he taught them , ultimately into to Kung Fu-so legend has it- all very interesting reading.
I think martial arts in China were around before the Shaolin temple however- one should not read legends as anything other than legends, i think; but i think here is the true value and intent in the martial arts of this lineage (ultimately Karate)- they are excellent fighting systems, but the main aim really is to master ones own self, body and mind, health and fitness-mind and spirit, strange but true-i think.

Hello there lofty one
I see you're seeking after spiritual truth, and have joined in on the thread about the return to earth of Jesus. I wanted to say hi to you there, but decided to do it here instead. It seems more discreet, somehow.
