Hi Sim, yea i just know the basic ones i like Sanchin ,its great. i have only really got as far as the 5 Hien forms Sim , tbh ( not even got tekki shodan under my belt , but that would be next ).

I feel i havnt really practiced my kyhon kata or my Hien kata enough to move on to new ones , although i have learnt a few others ( including one Tai chi form from a video ) just out of curiosity.

learning and training/reinforcing are two diferent things, no?

Do you know anybody that uses/teaches the Ten no kata . Picked that one up years ago aswell, love it ! smiley - smiley

I suppose really we use ten no kata all the time in some form when we do our kihon practice but it may not be reconized as such unless refering to the old texts such as Funakoshi's...the heian kata are so important, can be neglected by lower grades only doing the one for their grade, but you must continue to refine them when you are a dan grade, kihon kate is great, so useful for fine tuning basics

No, Sim, they are ( she is) snowed under with mail, more likely, took a while before they replied to me. I done the same as you, replied to an existing posting ; and then somebody advised me i should start my own thread, which still took an age to get an answer.

Dont worry you will hear from them soonsmiley - biggrin.

Thanks Sim, i took a few pics of a local festival, and had a chance to have a go at the capoeira in a free workshop-actually iam not sure it was frre now: but me and a friennd joined . As longh as you hadc1Lt

Rather busy at the moment. Feel inclined to submit my judo entry as it is, although perhaps incomplete. It's just such a vast topic.

Do you guys know anything about hakuda?
As part of my research into the origins of judo, I've come across this interesting, er, stuff:
http://www.hakuda.com/main.htm

Apparently some believe it to be the source from which judo came.

Hmmm..maybe, certainly looks interesting, but it may confuse a precise history of your Judo article, perhaps a reference to it, I am not sure if it has a direct link to Judo, there are a lot of "older" systems out there that profess to being the original source to present day practice, you really have to know your stuff to sort it out.

Hi it certainly does look intresting, i am with Sim; it, i would not want to dilute the focus of the entry- btw is there any relation between Kano and this?

I just thought of something that might be of worth to you; i remember reading an article in a magazine about some of the first Ju jitsu men to come out of Japan and demonstrate their art. Around the turn of the century , i think, these ju jitsu guys travelled to England and took on all comers in challenge matches, and actually took on some of the famous wrestlers of the day; they toured the country , and offered a very big pot of prize money to anyone who could beat them, they were never recorded being beaten.
All this came from the memoirs of a famous wrestler of the day , who tried to beat them and who had reccolections of not only their shows , but training in the same gymnasium where they would work out.
i shall have a look for the article .

Another quick asside smiley - biggrin: In contrast to the Jujitsu challenges, i think it is of not to mention there was also a proffessional wrestler, who was a champion at the time ( catch wrestling ), he fought and beat a top Kodokan judo guy, so kano sent one after another of his top men and they all lost . this is related to the UFC a MMA scene i think and desrves a mention on my part.
i think what i have seen of MMA is very good for all martial arts tbh , although i know there are alot of people who wouild disagree but if you compete in martial arts i thjink that is the way- i rerally do think points karate takes something away from the art as a whole, possibly because if becomes the focus .

Yes, I have mentioned that in my entry. One of the most noted was Yukio Tani, who hooked up with Barton-Wright in his enterprise.

Hi KZ, i thought you probably had all that down, thought i would mention it , for it really highlights what a wionderful art Judo is, also karate and all other japanese martial arts too.
It was all unknown then and exiting but it shows you how effective it all is as a combat art if trained as one .

I read about that years ago and it stuck with me ; the bit from the wrestlers autobiography , that is:

All the best KZ smiley - biggrin

You did right to mention it, because I looked and realised I hadn't written enough about it, so you spurred me to beef up that section.

smiley - ok

Have either of yous thought about doing an entry on karate?
(Mine is really about Judo in general. I've just called it "Kuzushi, Jigoro...etc" to make it more original as there are already a couple of entries entitled 'Judo'.)

Excellent link Loftyskywalker! I've incorporated it into my entry as a link: "the history of judo in the UK". So thank you both for your input Incidentally, here are some of the comments people have posted: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F57153?thread=5548263&post=64718482#p64718482
