A Conversation for The Barracks

Researcher Jolietristan

I spent an uneventful tour in Fallon, NV and Lemoore, CA. Ground crew for one of the f/a-18 Squadrons there. 1985-89 that was my whole tour.
I felt kind of jipped at the time. The slogan was " Join the Navy, See the World!" and Navy, "Not just a job, It's an Adventure!"
Didn't get to have that adventure-- what ever it was suppose to be.
Do you believe that I still miss the sound of the planes and the hussle and bussle of daily life @ an airbase? I am one of those people who found out --way too late-- that I never should have gotten out of the military.

Two Bit Trigger Pumping Moron

I miss a lot of the activity around the military. Getting up early in anticipation of operations and so forth. I was always found of air ports to. There's always something going on, and people are always going somewhere.

Welcome to h2g2 and the barracks.

Blatherskite the Mugwump - Bandwidth Bandit

I don't believe I made a mistake getting out, but there were certain things about it that I appreciated... the excitement of heading off someplace new, standing on the weatherdecks watching a live fire, then standing around in combat and following it further there, or just standing outside at night (it wasn't allowed, but who was going to catch me?) and watching the moonlight glinting off the sea, and looking up and suddenly understanding why they call it the Milky Way.
