As I write, it's five minutes past midnight, so Groundhog Day has come.

The groundhog has not been doing his job the last few years. He was supposed to give us Spring 6 weeks early, but instead last year we got more snow than any year since the last Ice Age.

If we could get our wish, this would be the likely year for it. But I'm not betting on that. This kind of late-developing Winter often ends up with its worst stuff toward the end.

Or not. The temps we had today would have been considered warm for mid-March, let alone the beginning of February.

Um... January has 31 days, so it's February 1st...

I loved that movie - so original.

Well, we made it to the 2nd of February.

Not Feb 2 here yet, though if I'm a groundhog, I definitely saw my shadow.

Remains to be seen what the morrow will bring.

It was still a bit breezy this morning here in Ireland and cold too (cold in Ireland means 1 - 6 degrees), but the sun is shining now and it is a lovely morning.

Today is the feast of Candlemas. Wikipedia also says it is Bun Day in Iceland.

The mind boggles.

Candlemas is celebrated in Germany, as the more old-fashioned still consider it is the end of the Christmas cycle. So Christmas trees should come down today, where they are still up.

21st February is National Sticky Bun Day in the US. Today is Heavenly Hash Day (?)

Well, its the 2nd here now.

5:37am PST and the sun is not up yet.

Kind of chilly, pains in my fingers like before a freeze, but my toes are warm.

The wind has abated and the sky is sparkling clear.

There's still one thing that's worrying me.

If there's a sandstorm the day before Groundhog Day, does that mean the groundhog is enlarging its burrow?

Candlemas? I should take down the Christmas decorations, then.
