Delightful Fourth-of-July Hurricane

Apparently, the Eastern coast of the U.S. has never had to deal with a hurricane on the Fourth of July. There would have been a hugely-popular concert and fireworks on the esplanade in Boston today, but those events were rescheduled to July 3rd [last night] because of the storm. The Red Sox and Oakland Athletics were scheduled to play an afternoon baseball game today, but three hours before the first pitch would have been thrown, the game was rescheduled to tomorrow, which is supposed to be sunny.

Hurricane winds are very unlikely here in Boston. Heavy rains are possible, but so far [as of 4:18 P.M.] the rain has been steady at a bearable level.

In fact, I've gone out in the storm twice, and am eager to go out again in an hour. This rain is delightful. Hurricanes can be wonderful if they consist of warmish rain and very little wind. The air smells sweet and warm and clean. It's really very pleasant. smiley - smiley

Well, yeah, if your lights don't go out, as I hear they did for 22,000 people in the Outer Banks. But it was a little hurricane, I'm told. smiley - winkeye

It missed us inland people, so we've been enjoying cooler temps and nice sunshine today.smiley - smiley Enjoy your raindrops.

I hadn't heard about power outages on the Outer Banks. What I did hear about was the residents' reluctance to leave during the storm.

You can call me TC

According to my cookery book, and I've made them myself - easy and delicious - they are called "Boston baked beans". And I'm pretty sure the Americans eat them, too.

Anyway, my first reaction to the title of the thread was "cheaper than fireworks". Which is rather heartless and unfeeling towards any that suffered from the results of the hurricane, whatever its size.

Perhaps I'm getting nasty and bigoted in my old age smiley - senior. Help!

Reality Manipulator

I hope the hurricane has not done to much damage. I have heard that certain parts of the UK are very prone to tornadoes.

It was a weak hurricane, TC. My part of the Northeast got steady rain and very little rain. Damage seems to have been minimal overall.
