paulh, vaccinated against the Omigod Variant

My Internet connection died last night. I spent the whole morning with tech support, and they could find no solution. My computer is at Data Doctors having basic tests being run. Assuming that they don't find viruses, I will probably trade my computer in for a new one [they also sell new computers and recycle old ones]. Then I'll sign up for high-speed Internet. When that will be finished I don't know.

For now I'm using the computer at the Library.

The broken part is the dialup connection. No one will or can fix it. High-speed is pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point. I was hoping to be the last living dialup customer, but I guess that won't come to pass. smiley - winkeye

[It's a big world, and most of the other ways of standing out are already taken]

The CD tray on my old computer sticks, so I can't even listen to CDs or watch DVDs on it. There's no real point in keeping the computer at all now that it won't do Internet. Plus, I was planning to replace it anyway in April. I guess April has come early. Would that April weather would come with it. smiley - erm

Paul It is very lovely to hear from you and I am so sorry to hear about your computer and internet connection. I hope it won't be long before you are able to get a new replacement and that the weather where you are will get more spring like soon. Over here we have not yet had any proper winter weather except for small areas of Scotland in a few villages in Aberdeenshire.smiley - hug

We are having a very wintery winter here in DK, though. Frost keeps the snow from melting. But they say the frost will leave us again Saturday and some of next weeks daytime hours. Let's hope the snow will leave with it smiley - grovel

good luck with the purchase of a new machine paulh

I don't think I'd get a PC ever again, I've been really satisfied with a laptop. And you'll find broadband so much nicer than dial up!

A laptop is nice if you go on travels, but they are a bit fragile - and you have a battery to maintain also

If you don't travel much I suggest a stationary computer. Plus I would save a bit more and buy a Mac

But I'm not telling you what you should do - only what I would do smiley - smiley
