Working hard on a cookbook of my favorite recipes
paulh, vaccinated against the Omigod Variant Started conversation Dec 19, 2013
I've spent the last week or so writing up a book of all my favorite recipes and printing them out so I can give copies of it to my relatives for Christmas.
I have 46 recipes so far, and gave almost finished with the printing. All that remains is the table of contents and the index.

I could share one recipe each week throughout 2014. There are 47 recipes, but I could find 5 more to bring the total up to 52. Three of the recipes are already guide entries at h2g2.

That is a good idea
And we won't mind if you recycle the recipes who are already guide entries. Lots of artists recycle there w*rk in new contexts

This is true! No doubt about it!
And just because it is not carved in stone does not make it a lesser branch of art in my humble opinion.
If it is carved in stone any original w*rk will exist significantly longer than a proper meal - but even stones will fade - albeit slower than oil on canvas or s on paper - or cd's.
We have learned to preserve paintings and record music but just because we have to re-create a meal we should not classify it as a lesser branch of art.
After all we can live without statues, paintings and music a lot shorter than without food

There is an "art" to creating delicious food
is that in gloss, matt, water based paint or oils or emulsion ?

The media are somewhat different from those in ceramics and painting. Sauces figure prominently -- tomato sauce, various gravies. Some desserts are expertly sculpted, though I for one have neither desire nor skill for that type of art, though I like what I taste . Little things can make a big difference: getting the rice just right, the green beans cooked but not mushy, the chicken or turkey juicy, the pasta al dente [anything but soggy and stuck together
]. Seasonings help to make the sauce or broth come alive. Great curries and chilis have a pleasant heat throughout the dish, and the taste lingers in your mouth.

I fought the hunger with pizza
I seldom eat pizza, but this was a gift - and the that followed it was nice. So all in all it was a fairly nice evening
