I wrote about 100 short stories this year, posting them in the "Short Shorts" thread.
I've just gathered the best of them [44 in all] and rewritten some of them to make them as good as they be.
Here's a link to my compendium:

I hope you enjoy them.
Merry Christmas!

hi paulh
I meant to reply to this thread earlier, but got distracted or interrupted. I've always enjoyed reading the short short story thread.
I wonder if Solnushka Create has subscribed to this? I shall have to find out. Writing very short stories is far harder than it seems, in fact the shorter, the harder they are to my mind.
Yours are delightful. I wonder did you think of making the collection stop at 42?
Thanks for the lovely idea, it was a gracious gift to h2g2!

You're right about short short stories being very hard to write. I almost always have to go back again and again to pare away unnecessary words and rewrite whole sentences to make them clearer.
On the other hand, the highest priority is cutting to the chase, so the reader doesn't have to wade through pages of dull scene-painting or plot development. The best part of the story is right there up front. It's a lot of fun to write thesre stories.
42 stories is a great idea! Thanks for suggesting it....

I couldn't resist it actually paul, but it would be hard to discard any I am sure, just to bring it to our niche number.

I hope you will continue to read the stories I write, Lanzababy. Not many people read the Short Shorts thread. Writers need readers. It's kind of a requirement.

I have mixed feelings about that last statement of yours, paulh.
When I write i do so because I have to. Readers are not really needed.
Of course it is nice when people read what I have written (if I can hear they have understood it) and appreciate it, but...
I am not comparing myself with my good friend, the , but I believe I feel very much like him: He paints because he has to. He does not need neither audience nor fame. In fact he would rather prefer being left alone. And it is only with a heavy heart and because he has to eat that he sells his w*rk, which doesn't happen often, even if he is indeed a very very skilled who has studied and copied the old Flemish masters for decades but paints in a totally different style, completely his own.
He is an old age pensioner now with a secure income. It isn't much but he is used to very little and content with it, so I doubt he will ever sell again
