What I meant was, the Moderators just moderate some things without letting the person who posted what they're moderating get a word in edgewise. I mean, someone I've seen goes under the moniker of "Cumandango" and the abbreviation for this is the first three letters, which I saw censored in one post. And they don't un-censor it even if they bother to find out that it's "okay" by their "rules".

BBC, HEAR ME! YOU CAN'T PUT THE SAME KIND OF RESTRICTIONS ON THE H2G2 AS THOSE YOU PUT ON TELEVISION IF YOU WANT THE H2G2 TO SURVIVE!

BTW, why don't we ALL E-mail the BBC with our demands? Every single member of us? THAT'LL get their attention!

Howdy darlins These moderators can't be ALL bad you know. After all, I'm still here, and the common consensus was that I would just cease to exist on the *NEW* *IMPROVED* (cough) h2g2. Some of the racier conversations I was involved in have even been resurrected recently, though they seem to have petered out. Might just be time to give this place a dose of Viagra, see what pops up

So I'll continue to play within the rules as I understand them, give the new landlords a chance to figure out what they're about. Meanwhile, for the sake of decency, and not to OFFEND anyone, I'll don a goo G-string and some goo ti**ie tassles (which I'd be happy to paint on the pic that USED to be on my page if it were still allowed....grrrrrrrrrrrrr) and add my name to the ranks.

I don't think the h2g2 staff should be held more responsible for heavy moderation at this point. These are the same people who ran the site with a light touch before BBC came along. I don't think they're trying to keep their jobs as moderators secure by sanitizing h2g2. I think they're following orders.

Have you had some guide entries removed or hidden for "political comment?" I've heard elsewhere that you wrote an entry about foot-and-mouth that was removed. Did they tell you why they did it? I think another helpful tool will be a forum started on the Zaphodistas page "People who don't understand why their posts or entries were removed." It will send a clear message (to anyone who couldn't tell already) that moderation not only seems inconsistent, but that many of us honestly don't understand how we are supposedly breaking the rules. If your foot-and-mouth story applies, I'd appreciate if you could talk about it on that forum.

Peregrin, I think we're already self-policing. But I think we can still protest at the same time. Without protest, I doubt anything is going to change.

I'm afraid emailing has too much possibility of being seen as harassment. If anyone tried to inflate the numbers by registering under two or three usernames, or if anyone tried to send several different emails, then it would bring down the credibility of everyone else trying to petition for change.

I'm hoping to build up one long list of names to send in a single email to someone (still not sure who?) at BBC, with an URL to show this growing list of people in agreement with it. I guess everyone is personally free to complain about the current state of affairs through any channels available. But I don't want to encourage people to email the Beeb in any harassing way.
