Not too bad, considering I'm in the middle of exams. Four down, five to go - three of which are on Thursday! smiley - sadface

Lots of revision to do...

Heloo there!
I'm pleased to report that (after a couple of week's effort and a brief holiday in Anglesey) I finally managed to get my registration to work.
Unfortunately it's about 1am just now and I should have gone to bed an hour ago but I just had to have a quick browse around h2g2.
I guess I should be stopping off for a quick cup of cocoa.
I'll try to pop back into this thread later in the week to see if any one else has turned up.

This week will be filled with mirth & merriment as Saint Jester runs through some of the skits that have made people groan for nigh on 600 years... Can indeed there be enough Mother-In-Law jokes ??? smiley - bigeyes

Also, why not sign up for your very own Guardian Angel !!!

This week Saint Tweetie is looking for someone to put under her little yellow wing... smiley - smiley

Hello all,
While I signed up last week, I have just been lurking around since then, trying to get a handle on
everything that is happening in this place.
You all seem really nice, and I look forward to contributing.
I log in from work, so if I don't get back to you it is because I am not right on top of my computer.

I can see how you are confused. After a couple of days of lurking around and making the odd comment (apparently oddness is obligatory around here) I conclude that this is a forum (i.e. place where you deposit notes and replies to notes) but which has a community of people who read the forums regularly, and who use some of them in the same manner as a chat room.

*** aaaaggghhh I'm descending into pseudo marketing-speak smiley - sadface

So - if it were a 'chat room' you'd get on-screen displays of everyone's comments as they were entered. You'd also be reliant on the contributors being 'present' in the room at the time.

Having a forum format, h2g2 has the benefit that you can deposit remarks whenever you like, and look back at the discussion thread (which may extend back days, months or even years).

It also has the benefit of being pretty quick at updating threads and lists, so can cope with people dropping in real-time (almost) quick remarks - in the style of a chat room.

It is also a lot friendlier and generally more comfortable (note the frequent references to cups of tea, chocolate and ice-cream)

We don't have an official chat room cos we are magpies at h2g2 and we like to keep all your comments at our disposal.

You do all know that the servers are going down in 7 minutes don't you? If not check the front page smiley - smiley

Deep Cover

Another newcomer for this week, so I'll take advantage of this welcome while it is still fresh. I'm a lurker by nature, but I really should let my words get out more. Perhaps this is just the place...
