A Conversation for h2g2 Feedback

Dear Editor-bods

Just a little favour....?

Like many volunteers, and other researchers I'm sure, I'm subscribed to this Announcements page. Problem is: when a conversation title appears on my home page 'Amendment to House Rules' I don't know if it's a new amendment thread, or an old one resurrected. With so many conversations to read, so little time, such a slow connection, it's great if I can tell which is which.

I know it's a little thing, but any chance of adding a v small identifying tag to the title of any new conversations? Like 'Amendment to house rules - parental permission'?

Don't they usually put the date on things? And you can also do what I do, and unsubscribe from conversations in the announcements after you've read them?

Hi Saturn Girl!

the conversation that spurred this: F77636?thread=203434 doesn't have a date in the title, and I don't always unsubscribe if it's something containing a relelvant and interesting convo, but I don't prioritise it (I only get to h2g2 in small and unpredictable bursts of itme).

Should probably of said all that first time, but as usual, my window of opportunity is running out smiley - sadfacesmiley - run

Don't they normally read something like:

From h2g2
1 November 2002: Peer Moderation Pilot Project

or

From h2g2
21 August, 2002: New Smileys

smiley - huh

Feature request: make it so that only Italics can start new conversations or reply to existing conversations on this page.

Mina

I'm going to move this to <./>Feedback</.>, as the Announcements page states:

"Please don't ask questions here, as we anticipate lots of subscriptions to this page. If you have a query about any of the announcements here, please visit the relevant Feedback Forum - thanks!"

If anyone has queries like this, it's better to ask us direct, rather than alert all the Researchers subscribed here.

This the one of the last Announcements that Peta made before leaving the h2g2 team for the DNA team and moving to the Hub, we'll endeavour to make sure that the date is always included in future announcements.

I can see that Jim has updated the title, thanks for that Jim. smiley - ok

Lucinda - it's fun to chat in reply to an existing topic - and it does no harm. If you don't like the replies, unsubscribe. But I do agree about starting threads...

Oh boy - look I didn't mean to start a big hassle and I'm very sorry. This is the first time I've ever started a thread in the wrong place!

I'll say again in my defence that I only get online in short unpredictable bursts of time, and sometimes have to grab the chance and hit the button without rereading the small print...

But apropos of various recent discussions, and no disrespect to Pheloxi, who I admire very much, his first posting to this thread made me want to curl up and die. I’m sure the Italics would have pulled me up pretty quickly on their initiative, as Mina indeed did, and very nicely too.

Let’s be tolerant of honest mistakes, please, guys?

Thanks Jim

That wasn't meant as an attack on you - it's not that serious really. smiley - hug I was agreeing with Lucinda that it'd be neat to prevent the starting of new threads by non-italics in <./>Announcements</.>, but not about replying. And I wasn't trying to humiliate you.

Cloviscat, we love you. Really, we do! smiley - biggrin

There's eniugh aggro amount at the moment (see I've chamged my name to reflect the advice) without m,e starting trouble here. I'm sure pheloxi wasn't really attcking me, but it did make me feel sort of smiley - bluesmiley - blush and I'm not a newbie...
