Hi wildamythist. Welcome to H2G2. I'm not doing my ECDL at the moment, but will be starting the course soon. Some of my work colleagues have just passed theirs and are sooo excited about it smiley - smiley. One was showing off her certificate and passport for all the units completed, she was really pleased.

What are you having problems with, I know that IT can sometimes seem quite daunting at times, can't it? When I first started with a desktop computer it was so unnerving, but now I've got used to it and working with student records I wouldn't be without it, even with the specialist packages that I have to use. They took some learning but with help and time I got used to them.

I hope you're not having too much trouble with it, if you're getting stressed take some time out in your glorious garden, and wind down.

Hi Yvonne,I am not really having trouble with the course itself ,it is just that I only got a pc a few months ago so it is all very new.I am actually becoming ever so slightly obssessed with my computer now ,it is a sort of love hate relationship, because I get really smiley - crosswhen it seems to have a mind of its own!
You will enjoy the course well I am at leastsmiley - biggrin!and you are right about taking a break and relaxing in my garden.Although I love to read in the garden despite being frequently distracted or I should say easily distracted. You should find it fairly easy if you are working with computers already!!

Did my ECDL a few years ago; got it free in school, so jumped at it. Really, there's not much to it. nothing about how a computer actually works, just how to use it. They give you a licence to sy you can drive the thing, but you never have to lift the bonnet!smiley - smiley

By 'doing' do you mean teaching?

I did it in school as I said, aged 15-16. I'm noe in 3rd level edu so no job yet. But I just took a computer exam a couple of hours ago & was finished a two-hour paper in 20 mins, but then most were out by 40 mis at the most. I'd definatley put it on my CV, it says your competant to use the machine, but more importantly, that you know how to use the help menu, for instance, & that you will learn to use new programs easily enough.

smiley - laughYou could be right about the 'teaching'I hardly see my tutor and when he appears he is always on the phone.I had considered I may be in the wrong depaartment but my name is on the register and there are other confused persons there.smiley - biggrin

No, the reason I asked that was coz what you had said ('some doing the course don't know there are different levels') was obvious from the fact that I've taken the course & didn't know. I thought maybe you were saying that some of those teaching don't even know, which would be a different matter.

Well that also could be true because the Tutor is rarely there, maybe it is him in the wrong department?smiley - erm
