Photography as a hobby...need some advice on the "new" stuff...

Hi

I've done my own Black & White stuff.....But that was about twenty some odd years ago...Nowadays, there are so many new products and procedures around...I was just wondering...Can anyone give me a "jump-start?"

I would like to purchase a camera of good quality, that has manual and automatic settings. I'm not sure what the prices are these days....Something in the high-middle end of quality. I live in New York....plenty of subjects here...

I like doing "artsy" work...any suggestions? Thanks

Barb

Hi Barb!

Just click on the link to <./>Askh2g2</.>, and post it there in the same way you posted this message! smiley - smiley

Just click on "Start a new conversation", and type your message in there. <./>Askh2g2</.> has a much higher number of researchers reading it than this page does, so people are more likely to respond there.

I hope that helps!

Well it all depends on whether you want to stick with film (affectionally known as Analogue these days) or go digital.
Digital has come a long way from its early days, to a point where if you are taking a lot of pictures, the cost savings of not paying for development and printing of every shot as with film just to see what you have taken, starts to become a major plus. The fact that you can preview all your pictures on a PC means you only need to save the shots you want to keep and can reuse the memory cards for you next session of picture taking. There is so much to discuss on this topic, that really, you need to read up on the subject before deciding which media you what to work with. As usual the web has a lot of info out there. For digital photography you could start by looking at :- http://www.dpreview.com/
