Any objective sudy done by a subjective participant is inherantly flawed. If one was to throw a ball and measure the velocity of the ball it can only be don in relation to the thrower, it does not account for the rotation of the earth, the movement of our own solar system through the galaxy or the movement of the galaxy. Then if we were to enter the curvature of space and the inconsistancy of time being affected by gravity the whole thing blows up in our faces.

So at what speed does the ball travel?

Well, yes. But then (arguably) that definition of objectivity is meaningless.

Objectivity is an ideal that has been developed so that modern scientific model will work. It is easier to ignore one thing than change your thinking about everything. With no objectivity the use of modern science fails, thus we cannot believe that we are higher than other animals. We should all become Taoists and live through experience and observation as opposed to experimentation.

In the words of the ruler of the galaxy. How do I know that my memories are not hallucinations designed to bridge the gap between my physical condition and my state of mind.

The meaning of life is migration

Actually, the question was.. What is the meaning of life, the universe and everything! I would gues that "42" is NOT the meaning of life!

No, it was in the novel. There was this whole big thing with a computer and it worked out the ultimate answer to everything and it said it was 42. So then it designed a earth as a supercomputer to work out the question. But then the earth got blown up 5 minutes before it was finished with the program and no one found out the question. And then it turned out that humans werent really part of the program but were desended by alien hair dressers and real humans died of disease. And then theres this theroy that if the question and the answer are both known then the universe would be replaced with some thing more bizzare. I for one think that has already happend.

Apparently, the number 42 is just randomly chosen. DNA needed a number made out of two digits. He just liked the sound of 42, and that's why we have a whole cultus of 42-screaming people whenever someone asks a question that has only a scent of being fylosofical.
The meaning of life is basically very simple: the pursuit of happiness, the satisfaction of needs. There really isn't anything substantial more to add to it, in my humble opinion.

i don't think it really matters what the meaning of life is. we shouldn't be in a rush to find out - maybe you only know the reason for your life when you're dying... then i guess every man (or woman) has to see for themselves. :D

Personally, I think that 42 is some sort word or abbreviation/acronym,of code used by the higher dimensional beings that hurt people on purpose via Brockian ultra cricket. Or the last numbers that trail out of the new Panic! Infinidim version of the guide. The robot bird one. But don't worry I won't do/give any plot spoilers about it.

A few months back my daughter aged 6 asked me why we were here.

After a few minutes thought I replied that the best answer I could give her for the moment was to find out stuff.

Meaning of life is simpleb first you must understand one simple thing.

You are an insignificant, little, smaller-than-dust, no-good piece of atoms and electrons that happen to exist for a a fraction of an itsy bitsy short, little period of the endlessness called time and space.

Whatever you do will not change the universe nor time, so stop taking life so bloody serious.

Once you realized that, then you can start living. What is our purpose on Earth? Nothing! We do not fit into the ecology at all. We're a blasted virus, feeding of the Earth's resources, fauna and flora for our own purposes. Like leeches we drain the planet. So our purpose here is quite simple. Destroy the planet, or disappear from it.

The only thing that does matter in our pesky, insignificant, short lives, is your loved ones!

Wether or not you belive in reincarnation, going to heaven, to hell, becomming a ghost et.c., the one, and only thing, that is 100% certain and proved, is that you live once!

So stop thinking too much, stop being a grumpy old fart, stop being spiteful and hating, stop honking your horn at old ladies crossing the street, stop throwing curses at people who drive 2mph slower than your "ideal" speed, stop being an asshole, and be more caring with those around you.

Who cares what job you have, what pay you have, what car you have, what house you have, what wife/hubby you have, where you live, how smart you are, how many women/men you had...

You're still a small grain of dust in the big nothing, and you're going to die, just like everyone else.

Meaning of life, there is none.

Just make the best out of your time here, and look after those next to you. Be happy, make others smile, and at least you live a good life, with happiness and friends, if still a meaningless one, just like all the rest of us.

The Dalai Lama says the meaning of life is to be happy and useful. Good enough for me.
