Has anyone got any thoughts! *Oh* yes indeedy! There is a thread going on this topic, which is past 2500 posts by now (I'll give a link later.)
It goes without saying that no matter how much certain Pretzeldents want World War III, they should not be allowed to have it!

I am sorry, Me_Wendle, but I think you are perhaps a bit naive... Saddam's CBW was given him by the USA and used with the blessing of 41 (Bush snr) and Ronald Reagan before him. Like OBL, Saddam is a puppet who cut his strings (or tried to)
PS I wrote a short story back in October, about a 15 year old girl in the year 2106, studying our time and its wars in her school history class. *They* were taught the guy was called 'Saddam Insane! I thought of it first!

Interesting, Tikibobber...>> which could be percieved to show how Saddam is a religios man. As for all monteques and thee, it's pretty obviose that he has a grudge against America, and Bush.<<
One of the reasons why Saddam and Osama Bin Laden hate each other, like cats hate meeces to pieces (and they do, BTW) is that Saddam Hussein's state is secular and OBL is a religious fundamentalist.

I like what Mohammad Ali had to say when he refused to fight in Vietnam ;
"Why would I want to kill some other poor people?"
I think he embodies a true Muslim.
After all the last war only seemed to kill the innocent and left the despot alive and in power. so what was that all about?
Perhaps this war on Iraq is all about covering up the fact that the war on Afghanistan was a complete failure? who reads the news there now? what has changed there?
Let's remember if we can that although we have almost despotic rulers, all over the place, it is still the individual who fights for them.
The words of the song Universal Soldier ring as true today as they did in the sixties.
Bombing people makes them hate you

I have read and debated a great deal around this subject and yet am uncomfortably coming to the conclusion that after the world trade centre attack when Mr Dubya's popularity rating soared ( along with the mayor whose previous achievements included freeing the streets of new york from beggers by dumping them in other areas without support)The proposed War will principally serve to keep Bush electable.
Oh what a sad world we live in.

And how about petroleum prices. They will soon be sky-high. Have you ever thought about the economic point of view. As unfortunately money is what drives our world.

Ever thought about petroleum prices?! There are about to get sky-high soon. It's the money that drives our world. Sadly, it is not even hatred

Oil prices drive this world that we live in at the moment.....but war kills people on both sides and when you're dead you suddenly find that you have absolutely no use for oil
War to keep the current commercial, earth killing, status Quo? ??
Huh?

I lived in Baghdad in the late eighties and saw the results of that useless war between Iraq and Iran. From the many visiting top members of the then Uk government it was very clear to me that they were very happy with dear ole Saddam. Good because it helped the US to avenge the Iranians after their diplomats were incarserated. Now I read that Rumsfeld the original Dr Death was in there too pledging his assistance come what may. Of course bombing will be by state of the art bombs designed not to kill any civilians unless .....er whoops another one went astray! The only losers will again be the Iraqis who once again should Saddam be removed get a US clone government by people who have not seen the skies over that country for years!

Blair runs round the sleeping bush, let slleping dogs lie I was taught, prehaps Mr Blair and sons should show our boys the way and sign up YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU,,, I've just read that Mr Blair says were all doomed, if that is the case why have all the military guys I work with , been jabbed for anthrax ( weeks ago ) and been posted to hot and sandy places on monday.I don't think oil has anything to do with bushes motives , I think he is trying to win a war his father was unable to do , a war in the hand is worth 2 bushes, or something like that. We could get our oil from the faulklands, the argies know about that , but thats another story.

Saddam might be a dictator...yet I do think Bush is still not justified in all this war talk... Even after the UN inspectors have re-entered Iraq, it seems to me that Bush does not even want to wait for the results of the inspections. The war rhetoric has been on a rise ever since, and the intentions are clear - Bush wants a war, irrespective of what the inspectors come out with finally. And this is because, this would help Bush take the focus away from his own dismal performance at home and also to benefit from Iraq vast oil resources. Bush suspects Iraq has weapons of mass destruction; N Korea has admitted to having these weapons. Then, why is it that N Korea is not targetted at all? Suspicion, it seems, has more weightage than confirmation!

Yes I got twitchy when I read that everyone in the US including dubya is to vaccinated for smallpox. Considering this disease was officially eradicated I have to ask the question. Does the US know somethin that we don't know? Also they wanted very much to point the finger at Saddam over the Anthrax scare in the US. If they do know it may well be cos thay know the original supplier! Blair produces his dossier stating that alot of misery material has not been accounted for! Hmmm how does he know what was delivered in the first place and by whom? I was in Iraq when the Halabcha gassing occured and despite what Blair says the Brit government still went on year on year giving around 400 million pounds of Brit tax payers money to Iraq. Now saddam is past his fall by date it's his turn for the chop. Strangely on North Korea everyone just wants to talk. Funny old world!

On the TV News last night, the American commentator was going on about Turkey and Jordan spiking American plans by not allowing the USA to use those countries as staging posts. Point is, that commentator *openly* admitted that it's all about oil!
I have found myelf breaking the habit of a life time, to write *two* poems in the last four days. (All anti-war
Read Helen Caldicott's new book 'The New Nuclear Danger' - she gives plenty of evidence that it's all about $$$ and oil!

I was in the UK on a visit on 4th July and although I never read the tabloid press the entire front page of the Daily Mirror showed a pic of Bush standing amongst a bunch of US flags and the caption said "Mourn on the fourth of July" it went on to say that with his bomb first and ask questions afterwards the US is now responsible for the deaths of well over five thousand Afghans making the US a number one rogue state! It went on to describe parts of the Pilger book. Well as you say the book is outstanding. The front page of The Mirror I have now had framed! It reminds me of the dangers we face not only from the Bin Ladens of this world but from our own so called leaders who are leading us on the road to hell.

Exactly, and without a blessed thing we can do about it! I just read, in one sitting, the Doctor Who novel 'The Celestial Toymaker' (1986, by Gerry Davis and Alison Bingeman). I believe that Celestial Toymaker is about just that!
