zap'd showed me the site getmiro.com which is both very usefull and a nice new toy
so i thought i'd open a thread for sharing other goodies from the net
as a side effect i learned how to install mozilla's browser firefox correctly on my mac, so that was also great
i can recommend firefox by the way. i suggested it to a friend, who said that not only is it very user friendly - it also w*rks faster than bill gates internet explorer
i tried opera years ago and might give it another shot if someone could throw me a link

Just www.opera.com.
They've just released 9.60, which is pretty fast. And it also has good widgets.

I still use Moxilla at home. Gawd knows what system the work IT police inflict on us, anything so it moniters our activities apparantly
I do recommend Grisofts AVG as a free virus checker and HitmanPro2 as a monthly screen for any spyware, trojans, and other malicious nasties from the Chaos Club

CCleaner is also very useful. Especially if, like me, you have a relatively old computer, but switch between different RAM-eating programs frequently. It's almost like rebooting! It'll remove all the temporary files that aren't being used, including (if you tell it to) the temporary internet files.

Another one I use fairly often is this, for converting audio/video files into different formats:

Or this:

This is good for surfing without a trace:

Do I get a prize for this A USB Flash drive the size of a pen but holding 8 GB of data, can be useful backup and costing very little, but a USB external hard drive costing less than 100 iceland bucks even better.
For dvd try Cyberlink dvd suite pro 6, costing very little .
Safari is the best browser, but firefox the best for web development when combined with opera, hell why not get all of them.
Notepad++ the best web design editor, and Paint.NET the best arty program developed for students of Washington uni, however these only work in windows I think.
Linux is the best op system, but requires a little knowledge to set up, Apache the best server best obtained in XAMPP.
Ccleaner is a good cleaner, and even does the reg, but not for Linux or Mac
A pen or biro was a good invention, but not much good without paper unless you are a white van driver, term used in Britain for small commercial vehicle driver, not the private ones.
Bricks were a good idea, because what would we use all that cement for.
That's it for now

I came across a useful little gadget yesterday that allows normal sighted people see what colour-blind people (like me) see:

I dunno if it runs on PC - presumably.

Well, I was going to advocate my G*rmin sat-nav but it doesn't recognise my house.
According to it there's no road here let alone a house.
It's making me doubt my existence.

Don't let a little thing like existence get in your way, Mistadrong. Here in the U.S., we have some government officials whose existence I consider so improbable that I have chosen to consider their existence null until proven otherwise.

yes please
i get the best of both worlds, since i am so privileged that i have both pc and mac - and both were more or less given to me for free (thank bob!, i could never afford to buy them )
so far i have explorer and firefox on pc, but mac has both firefox, safari and now also opera
i refuse to do any w*rk at home. i only use my hardware for surfing the net (well, mostly just hootoo) and playing music (i put all my cd's and quite a few of my vinyls on my harddrive, hooked my computers up with stereo equiment and use windows media player and itunes for listening)
it w*rks and why change a winning team?
so why should i bother about linux?
