Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Jan 7, 2013
My father is dying.
While I was away on my holidays he developed pneumonia. The doctors put him on antibiotics and a range of other drugs to keep him calm and to help him recover. As a result, he hasn't been conscious since Thursday. They've been feeding him subcutaneously.
He hasn't made any progress at all, so today they've suggested that they will stop treating him and allow him to die naturally.
I don't know how long this process will take, but it'll happen soon. They'll give him whatever drugs are necessary to keep him comfortable until the end.
I saw my father's body yesterday, breathing steadily, but his spirit has already departed.
So goodbye, Daddy.
Goodbye, Denis

God Speed Denis on his final journey. My thoughts are with you Gnomon and your family at this sad time. I don't believe love ends in death. I do believe the spirit of the departed person lives on and you will still feel his love, know he's around you, and within you. Take comfort from those who share your grief and loss, and remember him well.
Goodbye, Denis

I, too am sorry. It is so sad that this happened while you were away and that you never had a chance to speak again. I wish him peace.
