h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I have a friend whose husband is trying to persaude her to move with him and their young family to Melbourne. She is a hairdresser and apparently they would be allowed to move from England to Melbourne because of her occupation.

But she would like to speak to someone who has made this move, because she is not sure she can make the leap. The idea sounds very attractive to her, but she would like to contact anyone who has helpful advice, and personal experience of doing this.

Anyone out there who could come to her rescue? Leave a message here and I will pass it on, or perhaps put her in direct touch with you.

Were you looking for someone who has actually moved from overseas to Melbourne? Or general questions (areas, cost of living, etc??)

Oops! Sorry! Missed that one, it had dropped off the bottom before I got to read it.

I think she is looking for reassurance about making the move i.e. looking for someone who has moved from abroad to Melbourne and have liked it/hated it/never regretted it/regretted every moment.

Her parents have moved to Majorca to live, and his parents have both died. She has no brothers or sisters, and he has two brothers, but doesn't have to live in their pockets. They really have no ties here, although they are both British, but they do have vague and distant relatives scattered about in Australia, and feel that Australia could offer them a far better life.

But it's hard making that leap into the unknown and I think she is just looking for other peoples' experiences to see what she should expect.
