Milla, h2g2 Operations

Took daughter to the doctors. Since we hadn't a booked appointment, we had to wait some.

She has been very tired and dizzy for more than a week, nosebleed, headaches, nausea and loss of appetite, and finaly some spots on her stomach. I have to talk her out of bed, and she cries at me for screaming (I'm only stern, not shouting) but doesn't move.

Taking blood samples took four tries, twice in each arm without a single drop of blood - she was reclined because her vision blacked out, and I got dizzy from looking at them digging the needle round. Finally they managed two teaspoons out of a vein in her hand.
Tests for haemoglobin, viruses, liver function and possibly mononucleosis coming up. More or less, I didn't get to see the full list.

Took her to eat lunch. Lasagna, to make sure she gets some meat, and smiley - oj for vitamins to absorb iron better. She's now home, resting.

Came into work after lunch.

Got an email from R. His mum in Hawaii has fallen again. Twice in a week. She's confused, doesn't remember her son's phone number, who lives in the next house. She doesn't take her med's. She's now in hospital. R will probably make his yearly trip home earlier than expected. I think she'll have to go to a nursing home quite soon.

And work is busy, of course.

oh dear, the poor little thing smiley - erm

well, not quite that little any more, but they seem so little when they are not feeling well, yes?

please say hi for me and that i miss her on hootoo and that i wish her all the best smiley - hug

if it helps you may also tell her that i have my blood tested every 6th week and while it freaked me out when i was younger (i was always afraid that i would faint) it hardly bothers me at all these days. you get used to it and when you think about it it really doesn't hurt that much - and not for very long anyway

As long as they actually find blood, it's not so bad, but when they root around, it's not so nice...
I'll say hi.

Why are you having blood work so often?

Thanks for all your support! I will let her know!

Just talked to her dad, the smiley - doctor. He said that one possible thing is mononucleosis, which can range from a light tiredness to half a year out of school from being tired, and I believe she is being tested for that.

Also, she told me that she wakes up a lot at night. One reason could be that she insists on having the blinds *up*, so that it will be light enough in her room when it's time to get up. Back side of that coin, is that her room faces east, so it's bright from 3 am and on. Which would wreck sleep to some extent. And make her tired. Negative spirals and all that.

Hmm. My first thought was also Glandular Fever aka infectious mononucleosis.

I hope your daughter gets a diagnosis soon and that it's nothing serious and something she will recover from quickly.

No matter what age your kids are, you'd always rather have the illness yourself than have them suffer.

I have to have my bloods done every couple of months too, Pierce. Wonder if we're on the same thing? smiley - smiley

R's mum is in hospital now, and they have found a compression fracture. In her backbone, I think. Anyway, she is on painkillers, and will be treated for it, so on the way to mend.

I hope to get labresults for daughter today.

smiley - doctor just called.
She said that all the lab results were fine. Hb of 138, no liver problems, no mono, no thyroid problems.

So. She will have to spend less time at computer. She will have to turn out the lights in a sensible time (10 pm) and have her blinds down, so the sun doesn't wake her up.

Sensible regime, simply. Nothing strange.

Get her drinking plenty, too, Milla. I find that often when I'm tired, it's because I haven't been drinking much. If you can get her into the habit at this young age, it will pay off later on.
