Hi there. Can you use a tenor who can carry a tune, even if it aint the one the rest are singing?

Well, I think I've applied before, but I'm happy to apply again, not having heard.
I usually sing 3rd alto, but I can sing soprano or even tenor if push comes to shove.
In the sixth form at school I was in every choir except the senior boys (yes, I was in the junior boys). Later I sang with the Birmingham Choral Union - who have been going for so long they started before Birmingham was even a city!
Put me where you need me.
I'll happy sing in German, Latin, or even Russian.
Currently my favourite piece is 'African Sanctus' by David Fanshawe. Very moving and dramatic, with bits of field recordings interspersed.
Has anyone else come across it?

Loosehead, I've never heard of a choral group
that would turn away a tenor.
If you're creative enough to make up new
harmony lines, so much the better.
(The nice thing about H2H2 Choral Society
is that we never have any stress from rehearsals
or concerts. No rehearsals, and no concerts,
so no stress. A win-win proposition!

Zarquon's Singing Fish:
I thought I'd been exposed to most of the leading
contemporary English composers (Rutter, Bush,
Jonathan Willcocks, et al), but Fanshawe's one I hadn't
heard of. Not to worry, the choral society I sing with
will get to him sooner or later.
I can't say I've ever sung anything based on African
tribal melodies. The closest I've come was a chorus
based on headhunter songs in the mountains
of Taiwan, adapted by Chiang Wen-Yeh
"Yah ho-ee yah ho hoi!"
I think I may be a third alto, too.....;-/

I'd like to join... been a while since I've been in a singing group due to schedule problems, but I sing Alto.

Hi, Paul H (or should I say, Harry Potter)!
David Fanshawe also did something called A Musical Mariner. He's a musicologist as well as a composer and collected the African stuff in a long tour of Africa - in the shape of a cross, I think - he's a committed Christian. African Sanctus is terrific stuff.
I've a feeling the Musical Mariner stuff was also carried out in cruciform fashion - that was going aroud the South Pacific. I saw a TV programme about it a few years ago and really wished I'd video'd it.

I'm not in a choir, but would like to be if I had the time! I'm an alto - and consequently have to transpose a lot of popular songs before I can sing them!
Incidently - what's happened to the musicians guild? It appears to have been abandoned, and lots of people want to join!

I would have applied to join ages ago but I forgot that there was a choral society on h2g2 until I looked at Lisa's page a few minutes ago. I was in Westminster Cathedral Choir for five years ago as a chorister, I sang alto then, but everything is subject to change, and I now sing Bass
Any chance of a place in the choir, please?

Hum everyone!
For some reason, my application for the Musicians Guild was not answered. I just hope you're quicker in here with that.
I'm singing tenor in a student's choir here in Klagenfurt, Austria. So there's a chance for Trillians Child to sing German with me!
And if you want to, I could help you doing something with the Choral Society pages.

Hi!!
need anyone to boost your numbers?
I was in my school's choir for 6 years. Sang the Alto part for most of that.
But right now al;l the practicing I'm able to get is to sing along with my CD player. (For the huge list of people I listen too look in my space.)
How's that for a sign-me-up pledge?
