If or when the next London meet happens, may I humbly submit for your consideration the Maple Leaf in Covent Garden? Since few if any loyal Canadian researchers do make it to the meets it would be a generous gesture to sample our hospitality and liquid refreshments. All part of a crawl of course so you wouldn't be limited as to variety.

When there you might want to try a A2985429 or even a A2622205 !

That place sounds great, zoomer. Am actually hoping to make it to the winter meet in London next year so perhaps I'll be able to check it out.

*excited that I may meet az*
I've been there once already - there was a hockey game on the TV that the regular denizens were very fired up about

Hmm, looks like a really good place, just a few things, I notice there list of beers doesn't include any real ales, and theres useually a pretty strong real ale drinking contengency in an average drunk of resurchers (Drunk being the collective name for a group of resurchers!) Also we typically have the meet in a seperate room with the pub, like a bottom bar, or a function room, do they have one? to pour water on the flaims It does sound a very nice pub though, and some of the food sounds very* good

I don't care where we go, so long as it's during the time I'm down in the area over the holidays *plead*

I meant it should be part of a pub crawl and only to sample Canadian liquidities and munchies. In a suitably Canuck environment of course! (Although when I was there last there were far too many Toronto Maple Leaf jerseys and Montreal Canadien banners!)
We have lots of real ales here, though. It would only be a 4,000 mile commute to have a meet in my local!

Yeh, I thought about it some more after I'd posted that what I had posted and what i then went on to think was something like a think thing like this:
Perhaps* for the Christmas meet (january like normal I guess), we could have this as the afternoon pub; its got food we could eat, and beer we could drink, but we'd still need a evening venue, and that is what we are relaly lacking, as I doubt the Pendrils oak will have us again and the Sutton arms (where we were a few winter meets ago), probably isn't the best place; there must be some pubs centralish in London or at least easy to get to, who've a bottom bar/function room that they'l let something near a hundred very thirsty lunatics get rotteningly drunk on a Saturday evening in the period just after Christmas when they are in a 'lull', and who won't charge us for it, or won't charge much* its a quandry, that wat it is

My dear girl. The Vancouver Canucks were within spittin' distance of Lord Stanley's Cup last season and you hadn't heard of them? Shame!
No, the owners were Ontariariarioans so their idea of Canada stops at Thunder Bay.

2legs, there are several pubs in the Covent Garden area that might be suitable as far as I can remember. One I can't remember the name of was a couple of blocks away and in a basement. It was a bit *suity* during the day but was fun at night. I know that doesn't help you much but perhaps someone else here might know of it.
And Az, a and a back to you. I owe you a brandy in Spain or an IPA in my local, whichever happens first.

Any more news about a possible date? Was just checking flights to London from Seville and it looks like the prices are good just about any time in January.
How about the 8th? Or is that too close to Christmas and New Year? After all, some people will need time to get over their New Year's resolutions.
Anyhow, I am off w*rk the week before the 8th, so that would be a good time for me. But I could probably make it another weekend as well.

I'm taking my vacation in January (my B'day is the 5th) but I had in mind Cuba rather than wet old London town. Start convincing me I should come to a meet!
