Wow, when I first heard about this, I thought "This is a page I have to check out...later...if I have time...maybe...". Then I looked around to the mess I have to clean, and decided that I would rather be busy signing up here. smiley - smiley

By the way, you might be interested in visiting http://www.h2g2.com/A289811 for some related reading. I may, in the future, find the time to link here from there (sooner rather than later if this mess doesn't spontaneously disappear. smiley - winkeye)

Hmmm. Your impatience to sign up is a little worrying, but the fact that you put off something else in order to do it is the mark of a true procrastinator. Welcome.

In reciprocation, I'd like to be considered for the Church of Weekendism, but I work Saturday and Sunday, and I have Monday and Thursday off each week. Am I eligible?

I supppose I should be preparing something for my dinner at work.... bugger it, I'll get something on the way.

I think this might be the society for me too.smiley - bigeyes

I do, of course, assist in the running of The H2G2 Vegetarian Society, but put off replying to you there, not to mention the large quantity of washing, ironing, cleaning, reading, studying, and particularly odious officious stuff (which I've already been putting off since the start of the millennium), and drifted over to your page instead, and ultimately here.

At least I know now what to tell the 'government officials' when they come knocking to ask why I didn't act sooner.smiley - bigeyes Thankyou for making me realise that it's not just apathy.smiley - smiley

Actually, on the basis of what you say on this page, I think it may well be necessary for every researcher at h2g2 to join your society, as most of them seem to come here rather than do something more pressing and odious (like work).smiley - winkeye

HE has just bestowed upon me the title of Patron Saint of Procrastination, so I would like to offer my services to your members. So, if any of them ever need patronising...smiley - bigeyes

Goshoogoshoogosh, sorry for my late reply but...ah, you know why. smiley - winkeye

Regarding your application for the Church of Weekendism, it doesn't matter which days you actually w*rk, as long as you minimize the w*rk actually done.

*Dan looks at the above sentence and wonders if it makes sense. He decides to fix it later if anybody complains.*

Thanks to both of you for joining up here, and for allowing me to become a member of your own groups. I'll put links to both of them up on my page right away - it's a much more pleasant prospect than the shopping, laundry, washing-up, tidying, that I would otherwise have to do. I shall prolly get it in the neck from my wife when she comes back from her class, but she knows me well enough by now smiley - winkeye And Dan, yes, the sentence makes perfect sense to me smiley - smiley

Congratters on your PS-ship Pegasus, a noble title indeed. We have many members who just haven't joined yet, and almost as many who don't even know that they're already members, so go amongst them and spread the word so that their eyes may be opened, and that they may find diversion from the drudgery of everyday tasks.

Of course I should have joined the noble church of weekendism first, but I have been delaying that. Never doing today the things I can do better tomorrow. I really would like to join! [Thank you smiley - smiley]

Welcome Peaceful Earthling. I like the idea that we should put things off today because we might be able to do them better tomorrow - I've never thought about it that way but it makes perfect sense, and it ties in with the fact that I put off getting a pc for so long because I just knew that a better one was going to come along soon. Thank you for enlightening me smiley - smiley

And thank you for your kind welcome. May we all find enlightenment in procrastination! I hope someone finds the time to make a logo.

...Later, perhaps smiley - smiley

As a matter of fact, I've just been reading The Post, and The Roving Reporter has done a little piece about The Society, complete with a graphic. I've asked him if I can use it as our logo and eagerly await his reply. I've also taken the liberty of including your own theory about putting things off until you're better at them on The Society's page. If you've any objection to that, let me know and I'll take it down.

It's certainly a wonderful theory, Peaceful. In fact, it's so brilliant that you must have put off mentioning it forever. smiley - smiley

Also, when I get around to it of course, I'll put a link from the CoW page to here. The others must be informed of what they haven't gotten around to joining yet. smiley - winkeye

This really is a nice society. Of course I like to make sweeping statements sometimes. Not really sure we will find enlightenment through procrastination... but it will certainly be something to do while we wait for it smiley - smiley

I am (in my own world) the 'queen' of procrastination.... I wanted to write a thesis on it, you know 'why people procrastinate, how they procrastinate, the order of things they do when they procrastinate ie what comes first - cleaning the bathroom with a toothbrush to avoid writing that 5000 word literature review, or cooking an extremely complex and gourmet meal to feed your housemates (who would have actually been happy with baked beans on toast) or ringing that long-lost aunt you havne't spoken to for 5 years just so you dont have to feel guilty for not doing the assignment that is already a week late... but I haven't got around to it yet
anyway - id like to join - Im actually procrastinating as we speak - hence the length of this posting. I could sit here and ramble on all day... better not - like i said would love to join...

I've managed to put off doing things for so much of my life I think I've managed to reach a state of nirvana from non-doing. Life just flows right on around and past me as I put off worrying about it for another day...

Can I join? You seem like a truly enlightened crowd to me!

Hi ox, nice to see you here! Think this society has the makings of a new sect smiley - smiley It seems to have a religious quality about it, doesn't it?

I'm not so sure about that Peaceful - by putting off all the things which we'd rather not do, which are usually things that cause stress, we lower our own stress level, and less stress means more inner peace, and eventually, enlightenment. By not rushing around like a blue-arsed fly doing all the things that *ought* to be done, we insulate ourselves from the modern disease of never having time for ourselves, never having time to sit quietly and just be. You are a wise person Peaceful, I think you should put yourself up for guruship here at h2g2, maybe tomorrow smiley - winkeye

ox, tabatha, welcome. Nice to see you here. You both seem eminently qualified. I think that there is a religious quality to what's going on here - does anyone think that we should change the name to The Church of Procrastination? Or maybe you can come up with something even more descriptive. I'd like to think that this is a very democratic group, and that no-one is more equal than anyone else.

G: We *could* change the name, but when exactly would it get done? smiley - smiley

If anyone ever gets around to it smiley - winkeye, we could form a 'church of' or 'cult of' or *my preference* 'zen-like monastery dedicated to non-doing and reverence of the eternal present'.

hehe...sorrysmiley - smiley got a little carried away. To procrastinate is NOT being lazy...only carefully choosing how to expend one's energy!
