Does anyone know any songs that actually make you feel better about being dumped?
The only one I can think of is "Song For The Dumped" by Ben Folds Five, but if you've opted for the "let's stay friends" route, the chorus of "Give me my money back, you bitch" might be a bit strong...

Good Break-up songs:
"As cool as I Am" by Dar Williams
"February" by Dar Williams
"One" by U2

I recommend Weird Al Yankovic... He wrote a lot of his songs after he was dumped, and it's quite obvious that the whole thing really hurt him. His songs have a bitter tone, but that's the fun part They're good for a laugh when you need one most...
The best ones are probably...
"Since You've Been Gone" (my favorite)
"You Don't Love Me Anymore"
"Sick of You" and
"One More Minute"

Sting seems to have had a good line in these kind of songs.
Can't stand losing you
So lonley
The bed's to big without you
King of Pain
and if you get to the obsessed stalker stage
Every breath you take.

I highly recommend avoiding listening to the Cure for a minimum of six weeks after a break up (this can go on as long as six months); sure, it's nice, sad music but it will only make your life seem worse.
Conversely, I find that a little Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde, Pretty & Twisted) helps immensely. Sad, but in a nice, soothing sort of way; she sounds like she's been there and back a few times. Also, the occasional angry song bursts in to lighten the mood a bit.

I go for Ace of Base anyday.
Don't turn around
and
the Sign
are good all around, I am strong enough to deal with this types of songs.
Stay away from country altogether. That stuff will make you feel like ripping your heart from your chest and just throwing it onto the pavement for cars to run over.

Is that No Regrets by Robbie, or the classic song of the same name by The Walker Brothers?

David St. Hubbins - Keeper Of Quality Footware Posted Aug 4, 2000
Hadn't thought of that...
Either, really, but Robbie pips it for me. Mainly because it's such a bitter, twisted little tune.

Ah well I prefer the Walker Brothers tune as I think Scott Walker has one of the most amazing voices ever.
There is also the Wlaker Brothers doing the Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore as well for another break-up song.
