Body piercing isn't that bad, why not pierce yourself? I'm a teen (with no peircings, i thoroughly dislike them because i'm a wuss with absolutely no tolerance for pain). But after they get really hurt after being pierced, they'll learn. But if it's your privates, you might wanna step in.

Ok, I had my ears pierced when I was 13 (I'm now 16 BTW) and I've gotta say- it didn't hurt me very much. That said, I have a fairly high pain threshold and I know others who have hated it. Personally, I'm considering having it done again (ears- nowhere else).
That said, I'd never pierce any other part of my body- it seems to cause too much inconvenience anywhere else. Plus, I'm not sure I'd want to spend all that time putting on jewellery in the morning

I had my ears done aged 12 (I'm 14 now). Not many people know (I'm worried if my mum finds out she'll kill me) but I REALLY want to have another 2 ear piercings in my lobe and one at the top.......It did kill the first time! I wouldn't have it anywhere else

In Mexico, girls get their ears pierced when they are babies, soon after they are born... I've always found it strange that in the US (and other countries, probably) they get them pierced in their teens.

I had my ears pierced on my sixteenth birthday, the youngest I could without needing parental consent- my mother wouldn't, even though I nagged her consistently for five years....

It stung a little when they were actually pierced, then didn't hurt for a while. About an hour later I noticed it ached a little, felt sore, but that didn't last for more than a couple of hours and then it was fine.

I've not wanted any piercings since then, I'm glad I had them done and I wish I hadn't had to wait so long for it. But only vauguely- it makes no difference now.

I have my cartiladge pierced and it hurt for a couple days when i hit it. Other than that... it's just a piece of jewlery. I like my piercings.

My ear (top part) actually hurt more than my nipple... it wasn't really very painful though and this is an utter wimp speaking.

I have a friend who pierced her own ears multiple times, the tongue and navel, and said that only the last really hurt much. But it (the navel) looked really sore, and nasty, for a week or two.

Interestingly, her parents have yet to notice either (the tongue ring went in months ago).

what's wrong with piercing? I had my tongue pierced for 6 months last year and it was a lot of fun.
Girls loved it, I enjoyed playing with it in class, and it really wasn't very hard to take care of since I was very careful.
We've got to relax a little bit about all this stuff, don't you think?

I used to have 17 earrings, which were great. I did them myself, which was stupid. My parents worked on the basis that if they wear them with no hassle, the novelty would wear off quicker. They were very wrong. hee hee. But, you should just let people get on with it. you can always take them out if you change your mind later.

i want a ton of piercings. i think it's a way to be different from everyone else, not te mention that it looks totally cool. i want to pierce my eyebrow, bellybutton, and nipples. i already have my ears pierced twice each, but i want to pierce them more. i also want to dye my hair orange... too bad my parents will kill me if i ever do. why do they care what i do to MY body? i will have to live with the consequences of my actions, but they won't. i don't see why they should have any control over what i do with my body. i'm not hurting anyone with my piercings and hair dye... so what is the big deal?!?

I had my ears pierced when I was 13 (my Mum originally wanted me to wait 'till 16, but she let me anyway) I did about 4 more in each ear myself. It hurt a lot, but they're ok. I like piercings (although it's getting to be a bit of a uniform now, which is why I only wear 1 ring in each ear). I have nothing against it at all. But..... there are sometimes serious medical consequences (look at all the important nerves in your tongue and near your eyebrow - you don't want half your face paralysed do you?) Maybe (I have no idea about this) you may want to breastfeed later on (I know, I know, but you have to think about this stuff sometime so why not now?) so how would having your nipple pierced interfere (or not) with this? The appearance police will turn you down for jobs you can do standing on your head if you have too many visible piercings (and tattoos). We can't all work for ourselves and be internet millionaires. So the crux of the matter is: we parents (bet you never guessed I'm a mum, did you? ) should let our teenagers get informed about both sides of this and then make an informed decision themselves. How often dow we say to them "act your age"? you teenagers: don't forget, we have your best interests at heart. We really do. You actually don't owe us anything (so you can save us all that "I didn't ask to be born" stuff) but it would be nice if you acknowledged that we really do love you and want the best for you. But if your parents insist that you pay for this stuff yourself, that would be a good deal, wouldn't it? And don't ask them to like it. We're parents, it's our job to disapprove of teenagers. Otherwise what else would you have to gripe about?

I don't have and don't want any piercings. Not because they are painful or because I'm concerned for my health, but because they won't look good on me. My sister has had her ears pierced since she was 9. My mother was the one who suggested it. I don't see what is wrong with piercings as long as they are not excessive. One of my friends wore 8 rings on one ear. He had one real earring and the rest were wire rings with a holes on one side which he just slipped on. This was a good way for him to see how people reacted and how he felt about it without making any permanent decisions that he would be unable to hide in the future. Many people regret permanent things they did during times of rash thinking. Imagine having to live with a Tellytubby tattooed on your shoulder because of a whim of the past.

The bassist of the best band in the world (Mansun) has got a tattoo of Animal on his arm, Marvin the Martian on his back(?) and Bert and Ernie on his arse

I think it's worth pointing out that parents are often more observant than you think... and a lot of the time they will be prepared to not mention something to avoid the trouble of arguing about it.
Just because they don't talk about something doesn't mean they don't know about it.
That's not meant as a comment directly for you, it's sort of a general thing that a lot of people don't appreciate

Trivia- apparently (and my time may be slightly off) after 6 months of having your tongue pierced, you have a permanent hole there. Yeesch- does anyone else find that a little scary? I know it's exactly the same as having a tattoo- but it's not (logic girl!). I mean, a hole in your tongue for the rest of your life, no matter what you do...
Nah, I couldn't do it.
Possibly I'm just being overprotective of my tongue though
