My tax credits stopped on 1 Sept, because Andrew turned 16! BUT... he's still in education, and I told them months ago...
*ring college for confirmation of his course and tutor name*
Phone back Tax Credits office.
"Brilliant, we will reinstate the tax credits and backdate them to 1st September and send a letter of confirmation in the post"
*collapses in heap*

I keep *everything* official, especially concerning money
With my son's wedding just gone (and now ordering photos and enlargements), and my sister's hugely expensive hen night etc., before even my mother's 90th due 1st Oct, and my sister's actual wedding on the 3rd Oct, 
did I mention my car's annual service Thursday and MOT Saturday? 
The tax credits were £106 a week. Not something I could live without.

That reminds me - I've got to sort out papers for my pension. It means I have to get forms (in German!) filled in by my old school (which doesn't exist any more - it was a Grammar School but turned Comprehensive when I left in 1972) and my old college (which doesn't exist any more either - Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology is now Anglia Ruskin University - I bet they don't teach shorthand-typing there any more!)
Anyway - it's a relief, isn't it, when the State coughs up some welcome dough.
