Back at the ! How long before they send people again? I looked at the Nasa site, and they just say this is "first steps" to getting back there. The launch camera looked fantastic -

I just wish it was a longer clip!
Speeaking of steps - I loved the bit in the Triumphs and Tragedies programme where the astronaut was making the first flight in the jet-pack thingummy -
"It might have been a small step for Neil, but it's one heck of a leap for me!!"

I'm intrigued by the label on the photo that says 'mini-RF' - has our very own ReddyFreddy got a mini-me that he's sent to the moon?

I wonder if he'll get it together with Lola? Apparently she's a global lunar topographic model! Sounds glamorous!!

Great clip, Moonhogg! I wonder how much image stabilising was applied: the astronauts spoke of extreme vibration, that looked so smooth!

pretty? Oh yes - but check out the link at the bottom:
"This image in full-resolution (8000x8000pix, TIF format, 149 MB)"
8000 by 8000?
149Mb - flippin' heck that's gonna take some beating!
Although haven't checked it out as work might notice a transfer of that size that isn't work related

Probably a wise warning, Ictoan!
Looks beautiful enough just at the page resolution though! Ta for the link!

just downloaded the big version - wow! That's some piccy.
What makes it even more interesting for me is that the pillars of creation may well be no more. There is evidence that a supernova may have gone off 'behind' them and destroyed them 6000 years ago. Since we see them as they were 7000 years ago that means we won't see their destruction for another 1000 years or so.

Stuff like this shouldn't make you feel small. We're all made up from starstuff, every atom of our being came from the hearts of stars long since exploded. We're part of it, it is part of us. It makes me feel like I belong, not insignificant.
