I've just seen the picture the Eds have slapped on my "Nebulae" pending entry. A47424341
That's fabulous V838 Monocerotis, an exploding star, in case you didn't know, you do now

Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~ Posted Feb 27, 2009
oy, i'm glad my granny did not live to see this
whenever she heard the word 'dust' she immediately reached for her vacuum cleaner
seriously though, that is a magnificent photo

I've already changed the ALT title to read "V838 Monocerotis" on my PS and at Constellations: Monoceros the Unicorn - it sounds more respectful

...sort of puts my pics to shame! That is magnificent! How have we got permission to use that?

It must have come from the BBC picture library, Hoggy.
And your pics are *much* better than mine! (I tried to photograph the moon one night, and it looked like a in the pic)

Hoggy's the only person who, when I handed him my camera and asked him to take a photo of me, asked where the fill-in flash was.

...and Gina's not bad with your camera either!

I've just realised anyone not on Gnomon's friends & family list won't be able to see that pic because it shows Hoggy's children. I have a doctored one for public display though

You've doctored my children?
I'm also at a loss as to what you're all on about, as the hospital network doesn't let me get onto photo sites!
(and GB - fill in flash is used to compensate when you're shooting against a bright background - not much use when shooting nebulae, though...)

Oh, see? You used GB and Flash in the same sentence and I got a little off track...
Stunning FP photo though
