i have a very low boredom threshold. nothing can really hold my attention for very long, unless it absolutely wraps me up in it and i cant stop. this, it turns out, is an infliction, especially when one has summer holidays that last over three months. i have absolutely nothing to do. i have read all my books (order of the phoenix took me about 12 hours), and simply cant be bothered to re read them. i have played all my computer games. i have watched all my videos. i have listened to all my CDs. it doesnt help that i am terminally in debt and cant afford to bu anything, or do anything. it doesnt help that all my local friends (all 4 or 5 of them) are on holiday. it doesnt help that all my friends in london are having a rip roaring time without me. this is all most galling. what am i to do? its getting so bad that im almost tempted to go back to oxford and raid the libraries to *do some essays*. for a dedicated underachiever such as myself, this is grave news indeed. i might go to manchester for a bit, but really, all id be doing is going out, and i dont really feel like clubbing at the moment. i might go to italy for a bit, but with the people going there, its going to turn into a round-europe booze-a-thon.
what shall i do? go on...tell me! dont be facetious. i might try some guide entries...but apart from that? what? im going barmy here...

The guide entries might be a good start.
The library idea sounds good - only you don't really need to go that far to find a library, do you? Check out books on things you always wondered about - "How Things Work" is a good place to start.
You could teach yourself a new language - how about Russian? Now there's something you don't hear every day... And you should be able to do this on the internet if the local library doesn't have any books on the subject.
Give me some time, I'll think of some more things you could try....

i have to go to the library to read work books for my college essays.
oh, and i spent two years learning russian. i have a qualification in it. its a rubbish language

Typically, you've already learned just about everything you can from a book. Unless there's some advanced quantum physics you haven't learned yet.
Ok, now here's something I'll bet you've never tried: knitting.
If not that, how about crochet? or cross stitch? Basketweaving?
Once you learn how to do those things, you can make all kinds of stuff that'll keep you busy for weeks or months on end.

chain stitch! laenr chain stitch! it's the most satisfying stitch there is
or...go for lots of runs and get fit...
hmm...none of this sounds that tempting really, does it?
download random pointless games off the internet and play them...
do some art...

youd have thought so wouldnt you. you really would. well, i justr had a job. 6 weeks of absolutely drudgery as a hospital porter. it was crap. so my contract ended, and theres no other job to be had in my entire city, except at mcdonalds. im not that desperate.

Go fishing, hiking, freebie nature-y type stuff.
Don't know if you're into art or photography, but just going into the center of town or a mall or something and sketch or photograph people ... or decided to try photographing artsy things ... textures or nature up-close or lie on your back and take photos of things at an odd angle.
If you're not into researching and writing a Guide Entry, maybe you can just start writing. Take an idea you may have and flesh it out.
Come to New York ... I've got loads of things to give you to do!

Actually, I have to agree with Michele on this. If you really are as bored as you say, and as as broke as you say, you'd go after *any* job that was legal and brought in some money.

To be fair I'm with Unc on this. If you're not prepared to eat the food, why cook it for other people?
It may be good to go back to Oxford. You'll still be fairly bored, but at least it's a change in scenery
