Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic.

Fell asleep last night: Situation normal.

I've two alarms programmed into my phone 7.00am and 8.00am (for weekends).

The first I sat up and switched off on auto reflex and fell back asleep.

The second did the job.

Sometime after that I registered the power was off. We've a rather fancy fuse box that will trip at the slightest wobble in current, so a quick expedition to find a torch and re-set the breaker (no velociraptors) and all will be good.

I enter the kitchen, which eerily appears to be as if from another era. Sort of.
The battery-powered radio-controlled clock on the wall announces the time 05:35am. I check my wristwatch - 05.35am. Locate torch. Reset breaker house winks back to life and a few doodads make grateful beep-beep noises.

I get back upstairs, turn on the telly 05:40. Switch on my comp 05:40.

I check my phone: 08:23.

So WHY DID MY PHONE SPONTANEOUSLY *GAIN* 3-AND A HALF HOURS?? smiley - huh

smiley - aliensmile?

No, that's what I mean - my phone has been on time all week, and the alarms, I've not changed. It's just a bloody mystery. I am geuinly confuzzled. smiley - erm

Jack - I did the sensible thing and stayed in bed, and watched old documentaries I've had sat on my hard drive, until 9am when I got up for real.

Have you annoyed your brother/mum/dad? It's the sort of trick I'd play (and have played) with those who anger me.

Another possibility, albeit remote, is that the phones software has updated and when it did it reset the time. I guess that's only be possible if you've got a smartphone.

Nope and Nope. Brother is in Nottingham.

Not this phone. My touch-screen died, so is sat lifeless on my desk - I'm now using a Samsung PAYG that cost less than £10.

Any other ideas super-sleuth?

SIM card update? Are you using your SIM card from the touchscreen phone in the 10 quid brick? It may have been sent an update so it can work properly in the (presumably) 2G phone.

Yes, same sim-card.

Still why the gain of three-and-a-bit hours?

I'm due an update in about a month-and-a-bit, so depending on finances I can negotiate a better, newer model then. This is just to tide me over till then and will serve well enough in emergencies.

No idea but putting a new SIM card into an older phone can have some interesting results. That would be my guess.

Sim is what 18 months old? New phone is brand new.

Sorry, new as in more technologically advanced. I'm guessing the old phone has a lot more whizz bangs than the 10 quid one and it'll have a SIM that can handle those features.

So if that's so, I wonder why it wasn't until last night? I've been using this £10 PAYG since last week when my old un's battery packed in.
