The 7-11 franchise in Japan is very successful and well managed. You can even have parcels delivered there for you to pick up on your way home from work.
The US chain was in a bad way in the early 1990s and was about to go under. It was rescued by the owner of the Japanese franchise. So 7-11 is now a Japanese company.

Hm, was it that late? I thought it was earlier than that in fact, back in the late 80s, but either way, it's quite correct. 7-Eleven is owned by a Japanese company. And there are 7-Eleven stores in Japan which are quite useful. I've bought things in them.

In fact, the 7-Elevens did so well in Japan that they were part of a huge economic boom there... many competing 24-hour convenient stores like Lawson, Family Mart, and AM PM, as well as a bunch of others, battled it out for the largest market share... the result? A 7-Eleven or 7-Eleven-like 24-hour convenience store on (literally) every corner in the Land of the Rising Sun...
