Manchester City getting all pink!

An Observer article this morning says Manchester City are getting behind gay rights & have got themselves on Stonewall's 'gay-friendly' list.

Good stuff! I think it'll be a long time before the climate on the terraces changes but every little helps!

I wonder what the Gallagher brothers make of it all?smiley - run

I think this represents a wider shift in the city. Canal Street and the whole Gay Village has become something the city is proud of and advertised. The whole area has been done up and made a lot less seedy.

Manchester City has always advertised itself as the home team in Manchester, as opposed to United who aren't supported that much, I think its only natural that they should start to entice a major local community into it.

Plus there's a lot of money to be made, and they have a very pretty new stadium to pay for.

I was well impressed to see Manchester City signing up for this given that there is nowhere where instututionalised homophobia is as strong as it is in football. I hope this results in other clubs following suit and maybe we can see the end of this hatred towards us from the footballing heterosexuallly-fuelled testosterone which is football.

'Ello Rillington, haven't seen you 'round here for a while.

There is this lot: http://www.gfsn.org.uk/ who've been around for a while but it is good to see a gesture from a club.

has been nothing to comment on which is why I haven't said anything.

Yes, the gfsn has been around for a while. Am not into footy enough to join it though.
