Gay Issues

I know there is a page for campaigns and I have contributed to it.
However I think there are many other issues relating to being gay, lesbian or gay that really don't constitute being described as campaigns (yet).
Such as, the lack of positive gay role models in the public arena. (Sorry but I don't consider people like Barrymore, Winton, Clary et al to be positive role models, they just perpetrate sterotypes).
How about the under representation of gays and lesbians in parliament?
Then how about the fact that I can't hold my boyfriends hand in public or, god forbid, kiss him without fearing for my safety.
There is loads more but that will do for a start.

Smilet Ben thats the problem - if they dont admit to it they aren't role models.
What we need are positive role models from the world of sport, particularly soccer & rugby, business (ok so there is Ivan Massow), the police (ok so there is Paddick but we need more, just as the black community need more high profile black police), the judiciary etc.

I think you might be on to a good idea here Ross. I think part of the trouble is that after a person with influence comes out of the closet, they find themselves no longer in a position to be a role model. I hope that last scentence made sense... It's a sad but true fact I think. Until society changes enough so this doesn't happen... But I'm with you, it's worth 'campaigning' for.

Gay role models don't have to just be contemporary. Most young homos that I've met could stand to know more obout our glorious history. How about a celebration of notable queers through the ages, see how many we can come up with?

Well, I've just woken up, but that sounds like a good idea.

Hey
3 names per post.
1 point for each new queer named.
No repetition, deviation or hesitation.
Points deducted for repetition and misclaiming. Instances of misclaiming must be challenged or the point will be allowed. If the name is chllenged evidence must be provided of same sex interest or sexual activity.
Fatty will be compiling the list into a guide entry.
Let the game begin!

Isn't having a rule against deviation missing the point a bit? Just kidding.
It's opened my eyes to how few I conciously knew though.

The deviation rule (and the hesitation one) was just a pointless funny. Quoting just a minute.
There are yet more names over on the other thread. Why not join in, there are pleanty we haven't go to yet.

I got the just a minute reference, but I meant a rule against deviation was particularly amusing in the circumstances.
I would join in, but can't think of any more. I look down the list and think 'oh, yes, so he/she was/is', but at a loss to think of others. May have a look around the web to discover more.
