Fords HQ is still around, as is Ford Credit.
There is a tractor plant in Basildon, is all I know of atm. The other bitf of Fords I know is in Dagenham (hence the term 'Dagenham Dustin' for crappy old rusty cars that share pretty much the same car key! I don't think Dagenham's ever been in Essex though.

A paragraph added about Ford, haven't yet found a suitable, non-commercial link for Ford.
will look into the other suggestions.
>"Lakeside .... where most of essex modern culture relvoves around"??
(in the vioce of Brian Conolly) "It's just a shopping centre"

IMO you could claim culture in many places, such as Southend, or any of the sea fronts. One of the things I think I need to be careful of is not including too much from my own area, as I live in Thurrock, Lakeside is part of my area, what I've put about Lakeside I think is enough.
I've added about Mountain Biking, will sort out the University Paragraph when I gathered some more info.

Right. Mr. Pedantic here. You did ask...
"Over the years there has been a number of boundary changes, which have resulted in parts of Essex being incorporated into the Greater London region and surrounding counties."
I'd go for "Over the years there HAVE been a number of boundary changes, resulting in..."
Stansted, not Stanstead.
"Being as a large proportion of Essex is fields", lose Being as.
"it spread across Britain and as far as Northern Island", Northern Ireland.
"Chairman, Peter Wilkinïn's great grandfather A. C. Wilkin", I think you can spot that one. Unless that really is his name.
I think that's it. You've done a much more professional job than I would have managed for anything I can think of. Well done.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Dec 10, 2005
This bit doesn't make grammatical sense:
"The UK's most easterly inhabited island, Mersea Island. Part of Essex; Thurrock is linked to Dartford, Kent over the River Thames via the Dartford Crossing"
The first part (about Mersea) is a sentence fragment, and the second only works if you do it this way:
'Part of Essex - Thurrock - is linked to Dartford, Kent over the River Thames via the Dartford Crossing', although it would be more correct to do it like this:
'Essex is linked to Dartford, Kent over the River Thames via the Dartford Crossing', because the *whole* of Essex and East Anglia is linked to Dartford via the crossing - it just happens to terminate at Thurrock.

Ok, changed it, also broke into two short paragraphs.
I found the first paragraph difficult to follow, tried to make it cleared, and failed Any suggestions for making first para clearer, or is it ok, and just the way I'm reading it.

Hang on a minute BH
>"Essex is linked to Dartford, Kent over the River Thames via the Dartford Crossing"
Then I shouldn't put Dartford either, just Kent...as it's linked to all of Kent, not just Dartford
(Dartford crossing should have been called Thurrock Crossing. grumble, grumble, moan, moan, )

Well, this is still a sentence fragment:
"The UK's most easterly inhabited island, Mersea Island."
It could be
'The UK's most easterly inhabited island, Mersea Island, is situated just off the Essex coast'
And if you want to embellish it a bit you could add, perhaps as a footnote:
"In fact, the island is so close to the Essex coast that you can walk or drive to it at low tide across a causeway called The Strood'.
I think it's called The Strood isn't it?
I'll look at the entry again tomorrow - gotta go to work soon.

"I also think Ford's finance offices used to be in Basildon as well"
If it did, it was a very long time ago - I remember going for a job interview at Ford Credit before 1990, and it was in Brentwood then.
Why not call the bridge its proper name? I suppose it was called Dartford bridge locally as they'd always been 'the Dartford tunnels'.
If you're still looking for argiculture info, don't forget all the info I posted to the other PR thread.

I could add a sentence or two on Ford's history in Essex, anyone know what year Ford Credit closed? That'd give me the oppertunity to add a snipet of interesting info (and link) about part of Ford just round the corner from me that closed in the 1970s.
I did put Queen Elizabeth ll Bridge, with Dartford Crossing in brackets at first, then thought about it, from my memory, you don't see the words 'Queen Elizabeth ll Bridge' until you're actually at the bridge, the road signs call it 'Dartford Crossing' (I'll check that it is 'Crossing' and not 'Bridge') and I'll check an Essex map too, see what that calls the bridge. Oh and I should add, maybe as a footnote, both bridge and tunnel are tolls.
I thought I'd dealt with suggestions in PR thread, I'll read it again see what I missed on argiculture.

There's a fantastic costume hire place on Mersea island. Massive, it is.

I'll be driving to Lakeside on Tuesday, I'll try to remember to check the signs, but as far as I'm aware, the signs are to *all* the crossings, not just the bridge although generally it's the bridge people use from this side.
I didn't know Ford Credit had closed! I'm pretty sure it was there until I stopped cabbing, which was in 2002. I'll drive up there next time I get a chance, to see if the building has changed hands, as I had no idea it had gone.
In fact, a quick bit of googling shows that it is alive and well.
