Stephanie: who is for once in her life blissfully happy and content Posted Apr 5, 2003
Sorry, mom tought phrase. It just kind of pops up every now and then.
29/m and ive never jacked off.

This all sounds a bit rude!
Well, at least you're holding your own.

I'm 28, single and never kissed a girl. I do masturbate occasionally when the urge takes me, maybe once or twice a week.

29, eh? Never masturbated? Never kissed a girl? Hmmm... Note that he says that he's never kissed a GIRL and that he finds it DISGUSTING. Let's not jump to conclusions, though. The most obvious solution is not necessarily correct. He may just have lead an overly sheltered childhood and never came to understand the matters at hand, or...

He may also be an existing researcher who set up that account specifically to tell us that, or just to say it to see what reaction it would get, since it seems he's done precious little else with it. Come back, come back, wherever you are...

You may well have never 'touched' yourself and you may well have never kissed a woman, and like many other replies I agree you may die a sad and lonely death. But I wonder if your self imposed chastity is real or not. For at the back of your mind is at least the curiosity of wondering what it all must be like if so much fuss is made about it. After all, the majority of men in the world, that is everyone bar you, seems to enjoy and pursue masturbation, in its myriad of forms.

While I generally subscribe to the current politically correct view, which could be summed up as "masturbation is not wrong, it's good for you, do what you feel, la-di-dah", I would suggest that too much of it would be an indicator that a person should really get out more. (And yes, I do it, and I feel I do it too much.) Reasons:
1. It's toooooooo convenient by half! "I can go out to a bar, try and start a conversation, make an effort, and perhaps get off with someone but most likely not... Or I can just stay here and strangle my trouser snake." A decision that many of today's busy workaholics are faced with at the end of a long, stressful working day.
2. Too much (how much is too much, anyway? I personally feel once a day is too much - once a week would seem more healthy to me; this is of course a personal observation - comments welcome) desensitizes the (ab)user so that actual sex, when it happens, is actually quite hard to do because the solitary masturbation experience becomes "grooved" into the mind.
I suppose I'm not going to stop doing it, and it doesn't seem to affect my relationships, but I'd certainly like to develop the willpower to do it a lot less. Chocolate you can leave in the shop; beer can be left in the pub and cigarettes at the tobacconist's; but your penis tends to go where you go. (See point 1.) Apart from handcuffing my wrists together behind my back while I sleep, I can't think of any practical tips. Anyone who actually does give it up (or reduce it) earns my undying respect for their iron mental will (although they may then lose said respect for being an ultra-conservative religious person).

While you have a wish to reduce if not totally abstain, there is a reality to be faced. For all masturbators there are different reasons for partaking in this activity. This being the case we men face the task of either seeing maturbation as evil and a sin of the flesh, or realising it is part of being a man and for many it serves a purpose.
Be it relief from stress or tension or for sexual gratification we have to accept it as part of our maleness. The choice to abstain is respected, but at the same time those of us who wanked off under the cover of night, or in some secret place for to admit to such a "weakness' was to bring down the wrath of God. At the bottom of everything, under every threat of eternal damnation, was a boy doing the job and feeling good inside. That's why we keep doing it.
I agree it could effect relationship, but in my experience the two are very separate, and in most cases why masturbate when sex with a loving and understanding partner is readily available.

I'm with you on all of those points, but my essential thrust (oo-er, vicar!) was that too much of a good thing can be bad for you, quite apart from any religious good-or-bad judgements. Chocolate is very nice but eating ten bars a day every day is clearly a symptom of something else lacking in one's life. I believe the same is true for wanking. If one does it every day, or more, then it could well be that wanking is covering up a deeper need (love, exercise, whatever).
I'm completely OK with the religious side of it (basically my position there is: don't tell me what to do with my own organs, Bishop). It's the practical and psychosociological ("real-world") causes and effects that I'm wondering about. Do we, as a race, do it too much? (For some people the question might be "Do we, as a race, do it enough?")

Can doing it too often be detrimental?? Thats an interesting point. I'm sure for some people it is the only form of sexual expression they are prepared to indulge in. After all who can you blame if it is not as good as last night??
I don't think it is a cut and dried issue by any means. Like most things with human behaviour you can't generalise but how humans behave. You can espouse to the religious view that it is bad, contrary to church rule etc etc......but then again who are we kidding when we look at the Gospels and see Christ as one of the great party goers of all time, what a guy to invite to a party, run out of wine, no worries pal, red or white? That being the case he probably indulged himself in most human frailities. I know this is off the point but much of what the churches have preached over the years has had at its base the need to control their respective flocks.
Yes I do agree that regular wanking does suggest something lacking in your life. In my case the existence of a sane and reliable partner......( since has been expounged from my life) and after a 18 month period, replaced by the wonderful lover mentioned earlier.
This doesn't mean to say I miss my wamking, but rather I have gladly not participated in this activity for the past 2 years......I don't miss it.

Your last sentence there just about sums up my argument (which is in no way implied to apply to everyone, just me and anyone else who wants to join me): once you're happy and fulfilled and your needs are serviced, at a deep and fundamental level, the masturbation stops or at least falls off dramatically.
In about a month or so my girlfriend and I are due to move in together. I'll post again in two years and let you know if I've had one off the wrist since then.

Fair enough you may not have 'voluntarily' "jacked off" as you put it, but it is inevitable that you had a sexual experience at some point of your adolescence, isn't it. I mean - have you ever heard of 'Wet dreams'?
You can't control sub-concious thought. And if you know a way to do so, I'd love to know.
