Any chance of including images to show the good folks at home what the letters look like? Might be useful...

A phonetic pronunciation guide would be helpful, too, for all of us who are wondering how to say 'Xi' (other than 'eleven').

Well, Xi (of course is not 11 and it) can be pronounced properly if you think about it as KSI and pronounce it exactly like that. Now that I think about it it sounds more or less like the way you pronounce the letter 'x' in the word exactly!
And before you ask me how I know... I AM GREEK!

One easy way to see the letter glyphs, is to copy the following two lines in a text processing application and apply the Symbol font to them:
ABGDEZHQIKLMXOPRSTUFCYW
abgdezhqiklmnxoprstufcyw
Even better would be if Sigma Delta would include them in the article as (valid both for GuideML and HTML):
ABGDEZHQIKLMXOPRSTUFCYW
abgdezhqiklmnxoprstufcyw

Xi pronounced as ksee
("x" sound as in "picks", not as in "examination", which sounds like "ekzamination"
