Dragonfly. "A poet can survive everything but a misprint"-- Oscar Wilde

I want to buzz away about the latest Harry Potter book ...

I am sure there's a thread on Ask the Community ... but I think I also want a thread full of folks I know and folks who may simply come across this thread.

What better place than hootoo (seems every time I come here, it reinforces my bits of Brit vernacular, and that's what the book's doing, too ... perfect)?

Reading status as of this post: I have made it to page 223, the beginning of Chapter Twelve. I have the book released to the U.S., being that I live in Denver and all ...

(this has nothing to do with Potter, but I got back from Yellowstone this week and posted a blog about it, complete with some wildlife photos, here: http://denver.yourhub.com/Denver/Blogs/Travel/Blog~337537.aspx)

Hope you all are fabulous!

Your first post here in ages and as I have never read any 'Harry Potter' I cannot post anything constructive ... so I'll just say "Hismiley - biggrin"

Lady Pennywhistle - Back with a vengeance! [for a certain, limited value of Vengeance; actual amounts of Vengeance may vary]

I haven't read the book (my brother got it on the big-event-sale-thing and read it right away; me, it'll take me a while longer till I get to it). Read the spoilers that were reported in the paper, though, because I don't care enough to be bothered by knowing these details.

Don't worry though, I won't tell you. smiley - smiley

Bloody hell, Parrferrs! Finished it in two days? I've had a day and a half and 220-odd pages remain ... you rock!

Hi HappyDude and Lady P ...

I'm directing you three and any other eyes on this post to my blog, because it says really all I can say about the book and my experience of it so far (thanks for the read): http://denver.yourhub.com/Denver/Blogs/Arts-Entertainment/Literature/Books/Blog~338083.aspx

Quite glad to see you all dropped by. smiley - smiley Thanks for that!

I bought it Saturday night on my way to a friend's house for dinner. Got back home at 10:30, and read until 1:00 in the morning. I've since read whenever I've had the chance.

Paul, it's a wonderful book, isn't it?

I just read it and YAY!!! .... here are my initial thoughts (which don't give away anything, this is a separate blog from the one linked to in my other hootoo journal entry: http://denver.yourhub.com/Denver/Blogs/Arts-Entertainment/Literature/Books/Blog~338284.aspx)

Enjoy the read, Pauly. smiley - hug

I just finished it. Liked it, for the most part. Hard to say what I didn't care for without leaving some spoilers, though.

The actress who plays Ron Weasley's mother in the movies also plays Jane Austen's mother in "Becoming Jane."

I'm with you there, Affy, there were parts that I didn't care for, but they would probably be concidered spoilerish to those who hadn't gotten far.

In four weeks we've only had ten posts on this exciting subject? smiley - sadface
Where are the hundreds of millions of Harry Potter fans worldwide who should be offering opinions about this crucial book? smiley - huh

They are afraid of spoiling those who haven't read it, greiving over the end of the series, rereading the book, and/or depressed over the unfufilling epilogue.

Joanne *tried* to write a fulfilling epilogue. The original one was full of details, but she reread it and thought it was ho-hum. smiley - erm
So, she wrote the one that's there now. An author can't win sometimes. smiley - sadface

I expect that the movie version will be spectacular! smiley - biggrin

Actually, now that you say that... its a perfect epilogue for a movie. Just not for a book. I mean, some of the questions that are left unanswered, like what the trio do for a living, she answered in interviews, but it's not the same. And I don't think she's ever said what Ginny does for a living -- I can't see her being a stay at home Mom, no matter how good Molly was at that.

I stopped reading after #5, but swore that if she did in Snape I would hunt her down and shoot her. So as soon as the book came out I asked about him, was satisfied, and can now get on with life. smiley - biggrin

Hi, by the way. I wandered in by backroad and byway.

Snape had exactly the death his character earned. Betrayed by the master he had betrayed, and he got to look into the eyes of the love of his life (or at least eyes very much like hers) for his last moment.

Book #5 is the only one of the books that I really didn't care for (however, in a surprising twist, I actually thoroughly enjoyed the movie.)

I have a thread on a forum I help administrate dedicated entirely to posting all the book and movie spoilers that No One Should Read before experiencing the story for themselves. I made sure to be the first person to post any Deathly Hallows spoilers.

Have you re-read book 5? I liked it better the 3rd time around. I hated it the first time. The key things to remember are a) yes, Harry's being an @$$ hole, but all 15 year olds are @$$ holes, and b) all of the really, really bad stuff that goes on for the whole book makes the part where Fred and George get away that much sweeter.

Just Bob aka Robert Thompson, plugging my film blog cinemainferno-blog.blogspot.co.uk

Hi, I bought Hallows about a week after it came out, started reading it four days later, and couldn't stop until it was finished after 3 days.
It's really good (!!!) but also incredibly bleak. There didn't seem to be a single moment of triumph that didn't have a hefty chunk of disaster either mixed in with or immediately following it. However, there were large sections that were incredibly emotionally fraught, and I felt all that emotion as I was reading. The chapter that (trying to avoid spoilers) starts in the Headmaster's office was absolutely incredible.
As people have said, though, the epilogue was unsatisfying.

I liked the fifth movie a lot, too. smiley - smiley

I need to go back and reread the 7th book because I was in a hurry to get through it....
