WELL.
Yesterday I sent out 12 snail mail and two email queries for my book.
Yesterday I heard from an editor of a Denver weekly about my article ideas. One of them should work out, but I can't work much on it until we get closer to the event I want to investigate: The Marching Band Competitions in Denver. So I'll wait until mid-Sept to get into it further. Exciting.
Today I opened an email from the features editor of my school paper. I was afraid to read it because I felt that the article I had submitted to him wasn't as good as it could have been. But here's what he wrote:
Tabitha,
Thanks for the article. Not enough room in this last issue though. I'm
getting double the pages for fall, which the first issue is Aug. 14th (Inext
issue). This, as well as another story I want you to look into, shouild be a
go for it (next issue). The story I want you to do (If you chose to accept)
is about a stand-up comedy class offered by CCD this Fall. Yes, It's true, a
class in the art of improv and stand up comedy. I would love you to write a
piece on this. If you can't let me know.
He also gave me contact information. Unfortunately, the number has been disconnected. But I'm REALLY excited about the article I've been ASKED to write. 
I'm a 
at heart who sometimes needs assignments, and always direction. 
YAY!!!!

Thank you. This is great. I was all excited for and rallying behind you this morning, and I come home to the email from the features editor!!!

Well done! There's nothing like getting your first articles published!
Make sure you get more than one copy of the magazine though - you'll always need them for your Resume, portfolio and family and all that. I made the mistake of only getting a couple of copies and lost hem somewhere down the line.
